From Final Fantasy Wiki

The Lightbringer (ライトブリンガー Raitoburingā) is a weapon appearing in a few Final Fantasy games. It is usually one of, if not the strongest sword available.

Final Fantasy

The Lightbringer only appears in the Advance port onward, and is the Red Wizard's best weapon. It is obtained if the player successfully defeats Death Gaze in the Whisperwind Cove. If used as an item, it will cast Holy.

Final Fantasy IV

The Lightbringer only appears in the Advance port, and is Cecil's best weapon. It is obtained if the player successfully performs noble deeds, as is a Paladin's job, in Cecil's Lunar Trial. It randomly casts Holy.

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years

The Lightbringer is hidden in the games code, and the only way to acquire it is through hacking via Homebrew on their Wii console. The description to the weapon says "Removed from title", as with many other items available in the Game Boy Advance version of Final Fantasy IV that do not appear in The After Years. It can, however, be used as a weapon.

Final Fantasy VI

Originally translated as Illumina, Lightbringer is the most powerful weapon in Final Fantasy VI, and it is a sword. It is obtained by betting the Ragnarok sword in the Colloseum. Its Battle Power is 255, and it also increases Vigor, Speed, Stamina, and Magic Power by 7. It also increases Evade and MBlock by 50% each. Due to a bug in the game, the Evade bonus does nothing, and the MBlock bonus also affects physical attacks. It has a random chance of casting the Holy spell in addition to its attack. It consumes 10 MP each turn in order to perform an automatic critical hit. The Illumina is unblockable and is a long range weapon. Terra, Locke, Edgar, and Celes can equip this weapon.

Final Fantasy XI

Lightbringer is a non-usable sword that appears in San d'Oria mission storyline. It is revealed that it was the weapon that caused the destruction of Tavnazia during the Crystal War. The main objective of San d'Oria missions is to retrieve the Lightbringer and to prevent its destructive power from being used again.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King

Lightbringer is a level 40 sword that provides +44 Attack and is bought for 620 Gil.

Dissidia Final Fantasy

The Lightbringer is one of Cecil's ultimate weapons, and it provides:

  • ATK +69, Physical Damage +20%, Additional ATK +2 in Paladin Form. (JP Version)
  • ATK +69, Minor Sneak Attack Effect, Additional DEF +2 in Paladin Form. (US Version)

From GuildWiki

Lightbringer is a title available to characters who play through the Nightfall campaign. A character's rank in the Lightbringer title track is determined by number of Lightbringer Points accrued and becomes displayable from your titles list at rank 1.

Lightbringer title track

The Lightbringer title is awarded by collecting Lightbringer promotion points, through either quest rewards or killing certain monsters while under the effect of the corresponding bounty.

Rank Title Lightbringer Points
1 Lightbringer 100
2 Adept Lightbringer 300
3 Brave Lightbringer 1,000
4 Mighty Lightbringer 2,500
5 Conquering Lightbringer 7,500
6 Vanquishing Lightbringer 15,000
7 Revered Lightbringer 25,000
8 Holy Lightbringer 50,000

There are multiple ways to earn Lightbringer points:

Always display this title when fighting demon types (see below). You obtain the bonus effect from this title after earning Lightbringer rank 1 and then talking to the Seeker of Whispers in the Chantry of Secrets. This is NOT a skill, but rather a status effect. You display the effect by checking the Lightbringer title box (type: H to access the "Hero" panel, then mouse click on the tab marked "Titles" and check the box next to "Lightbringer.") Note: If you equipped the title before obtaining the status effect from the Seeker of Whispers, you can't benefit from it until you un-check it and then check-mark it again:

Lightbringer. Title. For each Rank of Lightbringer, you deal 5% more damage to and have +1 damage reduction against Abaddon and his demonic servants.

Note that this damage bonus does apply to certain armor-ignoring damage types (such as that dealt by Energy Surge, Chaos Storm, and Pain Inverter).

Displaying this title confers its effects on your character and your Heroes. This does not, however, allow Heroes to use or equip Lightbringer skills. The bonus effect is applied at the end of skill activation, so if you change your title during an activation, the resulting effect will be related to your new title status.

Image:Bug.png Bug! The damage reduction only appears to last for a certain duration or a certain number of hits for "55" builds using Protective Spirit. It is currently not known if similar effects occur in other situations. It appears that the damage reduction is applied before protective spirit unless the title is reapplied after casting.

Lightbringer Skills

The following PVE-only skills can be acquired from the Seeker of Whispers:

These skills are used to combat "Abaddon and his demonic servants" in the Nightfall campaign and increase in effectiveness along with the Lightbringer rank.

The displayed Lightbringer effect and skills work against the following "demonic servants of Abaddon":

Hero skill points

Rising in Lightbringer ranks awards Hero skill points. With these, skills can be bought from Hero skill trainers for the character and will be unlocked for all heroes and PvP characters.

Historical note: Prior to the Nov. 13th, 2008, game update, maxing this title contributed towards the Favor of the Gods.
