Lich is a boss from Final Fantasy IX. It is the advanced form of the Earth Guardian, which Zidane and Quina fought at the Earth Shrine. The party fights it in Memoria, in which it is known as Lich. The Lich, along with the other shrine guardians, are throwbacks to the Four Fiends from the original Final Fantasy.

Strategy

Lich tends to use special attacks, such as Lv.5 Death, Death, and Stop. As for damage, he can cast Earthquake, which is capable of causing up to 1800 points of damage on the party. The abilities Locomotion and Undead Killer are recommended, and it is a wise decision to try and avoid having characters with a level divisible by five. Physical attacks, as well as Wind and Fire-based attacks are helpful in this battle. Heal when necessary, and you should have the battle won.

Crystal World Incarnation

Final Fantasy IX Enemy

Other Information

In terms of statistics, the crystalline version of the Lich is only marginally weaker than the true boss. However, this Lich is much more susceptible to status ailments, so the player may choose to inflict several choice debuffs on this enemy if they so choose. The basic strategy should remain the same with this incarnation, however, as it has retained all of the original Lich's abilities, including several death-inducing attacks.
