He was a lay preacher who worked at Gamma Garments with Emily Bishop. Leonard and Emily were due to marry in 1964, but she abruptly called the wedding off as she felt they were making a mistake. Although he became friends with Ena Sharples, they often clashed over her role as caretaker of the local mission. Leonard was promoted to the head office of Gamma Garments and after leaving the Street.
