Legions of Lettow was the name given to the earliest organization following the Dark Side of the Force. These Legions adopted the ancient Jar'Kai fighting art, calling it Niman, after the triumvirate of Kashi gods.
They were founded and led by Xendor, the first Dark Jedi, on the planet Lettow, and then, after his death, by Arden Lyn.
The Legion of Lettow was the name of the entire Sith Order in George Lucas' first revision of the original script for A New Hope, simply entitled "The Star Wars," in which members were simply referred to as "Lettow." This script is barely recognizable from the final script used for the film.[1]
The Legion's name is possibly derived from Paul Emil von Lettow-Vorbeck, a World War I general in colonial German East Africa. Lettow was also the medieval name of Lithuania, a perennial enemy of the military order of the Teutonic Knights.
