Yu-Gi-Oh! (Duel Monsters)

The Legendary Dragons are three ancient Knights who used to live in the Dominion of the Beasts, and answered Ironheart's call to defend Atlantis. Dartz transformed them into Dragons to weaken them. Their names come from the ancient philospher Plato's workings.

In the Waking the Dragons arc of Yu-Gi-Oh!, Yugi Muto, Joey Wheeler and Seto Kaiba each receive one of the three Legendary Dragon cards: "The Eye of Timaeus", "The Claw of Hermos" and "The Fang of Critias", respectively.

Although the Dragons are widely believed to be Spells. They were played in the Monster Card Zone in the anime.

These cards are very unique, because "The Eye of Timaeus" can fuse with other monsters to create new monsters, while "The Fang of Critias", when activated, can fuse with Trap Cards to create monsters that possess similar effects to the Trap it fuses with. By tributing another monster, "The Claw of Hermos" can fuse with it to create Equip Cards, which are then immediately equipped to a monster.

From Yu-Gi-Oh Card Maker Wiki

The Legendary Dragons are a series of Dragon-Type monsters first introduced in the Waking the Dragons arc of the second anime series. In Waking the Dragons, they were described as originally being human knights living in the Dominion of the Beasts. They were turned into dragons by Dartz. Yugi Muto, Seto Kaiba, and Joey Wheeler each receive one of the three Legendary Dragon cards: The Eye of Timaeus, The Fang of Critias and The Claw of Hermos, respectively. In the anime these cards are depicted as Spell Cards, with the ability to fuse with various types of cards:

  • The Eye of Timaeus fuses with a monster to form a more powerful Fusion Monster.
  • The Fang of Critias fuses with a Trap Card to form a new Fusion Monster.
  • The Claw of Hermos fuses with a monster to form an Equip Spell Card.

The Legendary Dragons were released as bonus Secret Rares in Forbidden Power. They are all Level 10 LIGHT Dragon-Type monsters instead of Spell Cards, with 3500 ATK and 2500 DEF. Their effects in the TCG are similar to Hermos's anime effect in that they all combine with another card to form an Equip Spell Card. Timaeus can fuse with Monster Cards, Critias with Trap Cards, and Hermos with Spell Cards. They copy the fused card's effect to the equipped monster and also prevent the equipped monster from removal much like a Union Monster. Because they allow unlimited re-use of powerful cards such as Monster Reborn and Reckless Greed, all three of the Legendary Dragons are Forbidden in Advanced Format.
