The Table Lamp is a type of electrical device used in illuminating a desk or a table. This item is portable, can be supported on any flat surface, and is made of glass and metal. The lamp, or light, is contained within a housing for alignment and protection. A reflector on the lamp's surface directs the light. The housing and lamp is connected by a neck to a base which provides balance and support. Table lamps are powered by an internal power source. These lamps are used in the Vault-Tec Vaults.

The table lamps in the Vaults are communally owned and were passed from one generation to the next The expectation of Vault residents is that the table lamps will be properly cleaned and maintained to ensure their survivability.

The Lamp is a reward from the random event box and cannot be traded or even banked. Rubbing the lamp gives the option of adding experience to a skill of your choice. The amount given is your current level in the skill multiplied by ten (e.g. level 13 Attack increases by 130 experience). This is not considered a large reward by most players, unless it is being used to level up skills that are hard or expensive to level up, such as Summoning, Prayer, Hitpoints, Construction, and Farming. However, people usually choose a lamp from the random event box, as they feel that experience is priceless. There are minimum required levels for lamps that give higher amounts of experience points.

Using the lamp

Genie lamps are often used by players to advance skills that are either low or considered tedious to level. Combat skills are seen as a poor use of the lamp, unless one is a Combat pure, as lamps allow pures to gain Combat experience without training Hitpoints. Skillers also commonly use lamps to train Slayer without raising their combat.

Sometimes, a player may hold onto the lamp until they gain a level, especially if they are close to one. This is because it will give slightly more experience (10 more per increase) at a higher level. However, retaining the lamp will take up inventory space, as it cannot be banked, and this can be counterproductive when training some skills.

Lumbridge Lamps

You can get two Lamps from Sir Vant in Lumbridge. He is located in the building across from the general store. There is a ladder that will take you down to him. He talks about killing a dragon, so ask him if he wants you to slay the dragon. Vant will say something to the effect of it would disgrace him as a knight if you killed it for him, so he just gives you two 250 Xp lamps that you can use on certain skills - Attack, Strength, Defence, Prayer, Hitpoints, Ranged, Magic, Mining, Smithing, Fishing, Firemaking or Woodcutting. (This is only if you have not done the quest Unstable Foundations)

Trivia

  • It would take exactly 15,057 genie lamps to level a skill from level 1 to 99.

Yoda: "Mine! Or I will help you not!"
Luke: "I don't want your help. I want my lamp back. I'm gonna need it to get out of this slimy mudhole."
Yoda: "Mudhole? Slimy? My home this is!"
Yoda: "Wha-ennnnn...enn...engh! Enh! Enh! Enh!"
Luke: "Oh, Artoo let him have it."
Yoda: "Mine! Mine! Mine! MINE!!!"

— Yoda, to Luke Skywalker[src]

Lamps were tools that were used throughout the galaxy to illuminate dark areas. Famous examples include Setla lamps, Halo lamps, Glowlamps, and Sonic lamps.

Inside Luke Skywalker's survival kit was a lamp that Yoda stole. R2-D2 struggled to retrieve the item, but Yoda hit R2-D2 with his cane repeatedly until Luke told R2 to let Yoda have the lamp.
