Kari Liljehorn was born on Earth in 1974.
During the Eugenics Wars, one faction detonated biogenic weapons, rendering thousands of people on Earth unconscious and riddled with an incurable medical condition; Liljehorn was one of the victims. The United Nations voted to place the victims in cryosatellites in orbit of Earth, but most of these sleeper ships mysteriously disappeared in the early 21st century.
The cryosatellite Liljehorn's body was stored aboard was discovered around 2353.
Sometime prior to 2367, she served with, and became friends with, Anne Cobry. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "The Burnt Child")
Liljehorn served aboard the USS Hope (NCC-57371) prior to her transfer aboard the Prospect in 2367 at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "The Burnt Child")
Liljehorn participated on an undercover away team mission to Enip, along with Cobry, Scott Fack, USS Arlington first officer Vanessa Brocato and several others. The Enipians captured Liljehorn and Brocato and killed the rest of the away team, except Fack and Cobry, who escaped into the caves under the planet's surface. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "Lady Lazarus") It's not clear when this mission took place, but the author assumes it was between "The Burnt Child" and "Starry, Starry Night".
Weeks later, she participated in an away team mission to Goffan III to determine if the Jenchum Suzerainty were developing subspace weapons. After being separated from the team, she sought refuge in The Painter's workshop. Their attraction to one another was immediate, and The Painter's Thrall activated, putting Liljehorn under his spell.
His Thrall brought out her creative side, unleashing painting after painting. He began to grow concerned with Liljehorn exhibited violent and quick changes in emotion as well as symptoms like growing faint. The Painter felt perhaps he and Liljehorn should break off their relationship; something she didn't want.
Her fellow Prospect colleagues Cobry, Fack, Justin Braun, and George Serigos arrived in an attempt to bring Liljehorn back to the ship. They explained to The Painter they were human, not Jenchum, and his Thrall had the potential to kill Liljehorn. Instead of living with the thought he could severely injure or even kill her (through no fault of his own), he persuaded her to leave with her shipmates. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "Starry, Starry Night")
Liljehorn participated in counseling sessions with Fack to deal with the stresses of transferring to a new ship, being held hostage by the Enipians and falling in love with The Painter. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "Starry, Starry Night", "Honor Thy Father")
Later in that same year, Liljehorn was working a late shift when she discovered an anomaly on sensors, missing James Lee's birthday party. Closer investigation revealed the anomaly was the USS Artemis, a ship thought lost some three years prior. Aboard the Prospect, Liljehorn and chief engineer Michael Sill discovered a way to reduce the anomaly's effects -- by using a coherent graviton pulse to reduce the tetryon emissions from the anomaly -- and beam their trapped away team back. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "Lady Lazarus")
Upon the severe damage to the Prospect in 2372 in a battle with the Jem'Hadar, Liljehorn was severely injured and spent some time recovering at Deep Space 9 before transferring back to the Hope to take the first officer position. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "Directive")
Liljehorn had a brother and parents as of 2367. Counselor Scott Fack recommended she keep in touch with them during the rough time she was having. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "Honor Thy Father")
Kari Liljehorn met Anne Cobry sometime before 2367 when they both served together. They fast became friends.
In 2367, after Liljehorn joined the crew, their friendship resumed. Cobry went to Goffan III to help convince Liljehorn she needed to break off her relationship with The Painter before the Thrall seriously injured or killed her. In the aftermath, Cobry spent time with her to help her recover. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "Starry, Starry Night")
In 2367, Liljehorn met The Painter after being separated from the away team in Enika on Goffan III when she sought refuge in The Painter's workshop.
Her fellow Prospect colleagues Anne Cobry, Scott Fack, Justin Braun, and George Serigos arrived in an attempt to bring Liljehorn back to the ship. They explained to The Painter they were human, not Jenchum, and his Thrall had the potential to kill Liljehorn. Instead of living with the thought he could severely injure or even kill her (through no fault of his own), he persuaded her to leave with her shipmates.
He convinced her to take a painting that would remind her of him; she took the first piece she admired, a painting similar to Vincent van Gogh's "Starry Night". She hung the piece in her quarters in a prominent place. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "Starry, Starry Night")
In the Pendragon timeline, Kari Liljehorn was the commanding officer of the USS Hope through until 2379.
In that same year, after she and her crew attended the commissioning ceremony aboard the new Deep Space 9, she joined Admiral John Sill and Captains Noel Turner, Anne Cobry, Yves Müller and James Lee aboard the USS Advantage to hear about the possible M'Tar influence of the Myhr'an. She and her crew joined the fleet heading towards Myhr'an space to investigate.
En route, she and Commander Michael Sill attempted to figure out why sensors were behaving oddly.
She and her crew were part of the task force facing the a Myhr'an armada at Rhaandaran, working with the Advantage and Prospect-A in combating Myhr'an battle cruisers. (Star Trek: Pendragon: Other Knights anthology: "Gravity")
