Johnny is a minor character from Final Fantasy VII. A young man hailing from Nibelheim, he is a childhood friend of Tifa Lockhart and secretly has a crush on her.

Final Fantasy VII

As a teenager, Johnny departed for Midgar, and wrote Tifa several letters after he left. One of these can be read in the Nibelheim flashback on disc one. He became a resident of the Sector 7 slums in Midgar where he lived with his parents. The day after the destruction of the Sector 1 Reactor, Johnny left the Sector 7 slums, with the residents gathering together to see Johnny off. He is on the train with AVALANCHE soon after. His first destination was Wall Market, where Cloud and Aeris encountered him in front of the Honeybee Inn. It was shortly after this that the Sector 7 Plate fell on the slums, killing all of its residents, although it is unknown if Johnny's parents were able to make it out before the plate fell.

Cloud encounters Johnny again in Costa del Sol, where he has found himself a girlfriend. If Tifa is not in your party when you arrive, she will visit Johnny's home and the two will talk of old times. Johnny is found in Rocket Town later. When Tifa leads the party in search for Cloud, Johnny tells her that he has proposed to his girlfriend.

On the Way to a Smile

Johnny in the OVA for Case of Denzel.

In On the Way to a Smile: Case of Denzel, he is running an outdoor bar in Edge that is modeled on Tifa's 7th Heaven. Four years after Meteorfall, Johnny's infatuation with Tifa has transformed into an open admiration of her tenacity to start a new life after all she has gone through. Although he does not realize it, Johnny actually loses customers to Tifa due to his tendency to tell his patrons about how much she inspired him. He openly objects to Denzel attempting to enlist in the World Regenesis Organization in his own cafe, fearing it would damage his image. He also listens in on parts of Denzel's meeting with Reeve Tuesti, and speaks to Denzel about what he heard once Reeve leaves.

According to the Ultimania Omega, in an early version of the Final Fantasy VII game script, Johnny first appears earlier in Seventh Heaven. He gives a choice response to Cloud about Tifa asking what his relationship to her is. The chooses are either "We're just childhood friends" or "That's really none of your business, is it?". Depending upon the choice, Johnny will bemoan the fact that he does not have a promise of his own with Tifa and then demand that Cloud treat her right, or leave wishing to become a "proper man". Either way, it is implied that he leaves Midgar's slums out of heartbreak thanks to Cloud and Tifa's intimacy which he can never have.

Johnny is a friend and co-worker of Hurley's at Mr. Cluck's. Inspired by Hurley's example (but oblivious to Hugo's winnings), Johnny quits as well. He and Hurley seem to be regulars at the local music store, and he refers to Drive Shaft as "Suck Shaft". ("Everybody Hates Hugo")

After quitting, he helps Hurley steal lawn gnomes and set them up in Randy's yard to spell out "CLUCK YOU". Although, he appears resentful of Hurley once he finds out that Hurley won the Lottery. ("Everybody Hates Hugo")

Hurley later mentions that Johnny "stole" Hurley's girlfriend, Starla. ("Tricia Tanaka Is Dead")

Johnny is a mutant, born with his special powers.

First appearance

Son of M #1
(December, 2005)

Johnny Dee was a mutant who had a sentient maw protruding from his chest. The maw could produce voodoo dolls after Johnny introduced a DNA sample of someone (like a strand of hair) into the creature's mouth. The creature would spit out a shell that contained a tiny, naked replica of the person; which allowed him control the person entirely. Johnny and the creature were not the same being. Johnny had taken to calling it "the freak." Johnny didn't consider himself a mutant, since the creature had a brain of its own. Two possibilities existed: Either the creature was merely a part of Johnny's body and he was in denial of his own mutant nature, or the creature was some sort of parasitic twin who possessed mutant capabilities, while Johnny did not.

Johnny was one of the few mutants who kept his powers after the Scarlet Witch altered the world so that most of the world's mutants would lose their powers. Living in Mutant Town, Johnny was about to be killed by mutant-hating thugs. After being rescued by Spider-Man,[1] Johnny agreed to move over to the Xavier Institute for his own safety. There, he became part of The 198.

When Magma arrived at the school, they shared a conversation about her recent outburst. Magma saw them as friends, but Johnny began falling in love with her. Magma admitted that Johnny looked cute but was a bit disgusted by his powers. Later, Johnny appeared to use his powers to create small duplicates of the mutant Magma, and later of Jazz as well. They appeared to be voodoo dolls that made placed targets under Johnny Dee's total control. Jazz spied on Johnny and found him making the voodoo doll of himself. Johnny later used the doll against Jazz and killed him. When the mysterious Mr. M sought out to gain the other 198 their freedom back, Johnny Dee (at the request of ONE leader Demetrius Lazer had Leech depower Mr. M, and had Magma kill him. He then stated that he wouldn't ask anything in return for the job. "At least, not yet..." and decided to remain at Xavier's for his own, sinister reasons.

Civil War

Johnny continued to be a pawn in General Lazer's agenda, until Lazer was found out by Val Cooper and General Reyes. Both were incarcerated, but while Lazer was being interrogated by Cooper, he realized too late that Johnny did indeed touch him, at which point, Johnny snapped the neck of the voodoo doll of Lazer, killing him. Dee was placed behind bars.

Powers and Abilities

Voodoo Creature: Johnny has a sentient maw with small appendages near it protruding from his chest.

The maw can produce voodoo dolls after Johnny introduce a DNA sample of someone (like a strand of hair) in the creature's mouth, after that the creature spits a shell that contains a tiny, naked replica of the person; which allows him control the person entirely as he did with Magma and Leech.
  • Voodoo Dolls: Ability to create a miniature duplicate of anyone he comes into physical contact with. Once he has created a duplicate of that person he can force that said person to do whatever Dee wants. Damaging the replica will injure or kill the person.
Johnny and the creature share the same nervous system, but Johnny cannot feel the creature's pain (This was evidenced in Son of M #1 where one of the creature's tentacles were slashed, leaving them both on the verge of death, but Johnny was oblivious to the actual extent of the injury).
Power Grid [2]
Energy Projection
Fighting Skills

  • Johnny and the creature are not the same being; he has taken to calling it "the freak." Johnny doesn't consider himself a mutant, since the creature has a brain of its own and once tried to hurt him.

Rebellion era

"Johnny... Who was he again? Oh, Johnny! The funny looking one with the big mouth! Him, right?"
—A servant of Jabba the Hutt trying to remember Johnny

Jonathan, more commonly known by his nickname Johnny, was a Human inhabitant of the desert planet Tatooine. He was known in his homestead of Mos Eisley as an ignorant adolescent with little commonsense. His social skills were somewhat lack, which made him unpopular with the locals. He is both famous and infamous for his unfortunate and abrupt death at the hands of Jabba the Hutt.

Early life

Little was known of Johnny's childhood. His parentd died when he was young. The orphan was adopted by the Toydarian Watto. At a young age, he was taught in the art of salesmanship. It was from Watto that he obtained his skills as a con artist. Unfortuantely for him, he was never taught manners or the normal rules of right and wrong. This made a great effect on the outcome of Johnny's short life, even possibly being the cause of his death.

Servant of Jabba

"So, Octo-Face, where are we goin'?"
—Johnny to Bib Fortuna

Watto eventually sold Johnny to Bib Fortuna, who took Johnny to Jabba's palace. Johnny was excited about meeting and working for the infamous crime boss, but the idiot savant had little time to marvel at his new found career.

"Whoa! Now that guy is fat!"
—Johnny's infamous last words, describing Jabba the Hutt

As soon as Johnny was taken into Jabba's main chamber, and the words escaped his mouth, his fate was sealed.

Johnny became famous following his death. All across the Galaxy, people spoke of the "heroic" fool who, with no regard for hsi well-being, publicly insulted jabba, face-to-face. And, of course, a year later began the events that would lead to Jabba's own death.
