"Good luck sir, it's been an honor."
—Jerome-092 to John Forge.

Jerome-092 is a SPARTAN-II Commando of the UNSC Naval Special Warfare Command. He was a member of Red Team and fought alongside the crew of the Spirit of Fire in early 2531. He is thought to be one of the leaders of Red Team.[1]

Jerome was born around 2511 and was of a genetic make-up that the Office of Naval Intelligence and Catherine Elizabeth Halsey were interested in. After being selected as a suitable candidate for the SPARTAN-II Program in 2517, he was abducted and sent to Reach, where he was specially trained to be a soldier. In 2525, he and the other candidates underwent a series of augmentations to improve their strength.[2] Jerome was among the ones that survived and were not crippled or killed by the procedure.

Battle of Arcadia

Jerome was a member of Red Team during the First Battle of Arcadia and was tasked with stopping the Covenant long enough to evacuate the civilians of Arcadia.[3] Afterward, he and Red Team linked up with forces from the Spirit of Fire and assisted in a counter-attack on a Covenant outpost.[4] Once the plan to infiltrate a large Covenant shield was passed down from Captain James Cutter, he and Red Team remained with the crew to assist with the assignment. He prevented the destruction of several prototype Rhinos while they ensured that the shield was destroyed.[5] After Sergeant John Forge's forces triumphed over a Scarab, the three searched for Covenant survivors in the jungles on a Warthog.[6] Upon hearing that Professor Ellen Anders had been abducted by the Arbiter, they went to the Spirit of Fire which jumped into Slipspace, following the Covenant ship carrying Anders.[7]

Shield World

Later, upon arriving to a Forerunner Shield World, Jerome assisted the Spirit of Fire's crew in neutralizing Covenant and Flood forces.[8] Once Jerome assisted in destroying a Proto-Gravemind[9] he and Red Team became stranded on the planet. With the Spirit of Fire being dragged inside the megastructure, Red Team was assisted by the forces of Sergeant John Forge and successfully withdrew to the ship.[10] Red Team then assisted the crew in scouring the Flood forces from the hull of the Spirit of Fire[11] and successfully repaired the power core when it was damaged.[12]

Once Anders was rescued, he was tasked with ensuring the Spirit of Fire's Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine arrived at the teleporter that would take it to The Apex's command center.[13] In the control center, Jerome, along with Alice-130 and Douglas-042, engaged a large force of Honor Guards while Forge engaged the Arbiter. Once the area was clear, Jerome volunteered to take the slightly-damaged drive in and ensure its destruction. Sergeant Forge, believing that Spartans would play a bigger part in the war than he ever could, took his place. Jerome (with the Spirit of Fire's crew) was then charged with opening the gate which allowed the Spirit of Fire to exit the Shield World.[14]

It is assumed that Jerome, as with the rest of the crew, entered cryo-sleep after the Spirit of Fire escaped the destruction of the Shield World.

  • Though he uses a Spartan Laser, the game classifies him as a sniper. This may simply be due to the impressive range the Spartan Laser provides him with during gameplay, or its pinpoint accuracy.
  • Jerome-092's name may have been inspired by the Campaign Lead of Halo Wars, Jerome Jones.
  • In cutscenes, you can see the Legendary symbol on his armor's bicep. Jerome-092 also has the Spartan Helmet emblem on his right shoulder. While it is possible to "remake" the other two Halo Wars Spartans, Alice-130 and Douglas-042, in Halo 3, it is technically impossible to remake Jerome. The emblem is easy; add a dark gray Spartan helmet with a red top, but to get the real helmet with a red strip would change the shoulders as well. Also, you can't put a strip on the chestplate, however, you can make the strips on your right arm and right leg red.
  • Jerome is voiced by voiceover artist and stage actor Crispin Freeman.
  • Jerome has to be a Petty Officer Third Class for John Forge to outrank him. However, all SPARTAN-IIs become Petty Officer Second Class upon graduation in 2525.
  • He is one of the few Spartans to be truly MIA.

Jerome was a middle section survivor of Oceanic Flight 815. Jerome is an uncredited background extra character, whose name has been inferred from the dialog of other characters. Throughout his appearances he is often depicted by his curly brown hair and glasses.

Before the crash

The day of the flight Jerome walked past behind Sun while she was contemplating whether or not to leave Jin. Later, he was sitting in a nearby seat at the airport when Sayid asked Shannon to watch his bag for him. ("House of the Rising Sun") ("Exodus, Part 1")

On the Island

Days 1-44 (Season 1)

Jerome builds a tent, and is told by Sawyer to keep the noise down. ("Deus Ex Machina")

After the crash, he was on the beach and helping other survivors. On the first few days Jerome gathered wood for the mass funeral and helped Claire and other survivors sort wallets and other possession which were strewn across the beach. At night Jerome attended the funeral for crash victims. After, Jack made a decision to move into the jungle and use the caves as a suitable living space, Jerome decided to stay on the beach. ("Pilot, Part 1") ("Walkabout")

On Day 8, Jerome was with Scott and Steve at the beach, when Charlie rushed to the beach to inform the survivors that Jack was caught in a cave collapse. Michael asked Jerome, Scott and Steve to help him. He was then seen trying to help. Jerome was also present for Hurley's "Island Open" golf tournament and Jack's climactic putt.

When Jerome and Craig started to construct a tent at the beach camp, they were yelled at by Sawyer to be quieter as he had a headache. Jerome was recruited by Jack to join him and several other survivors in assisting in the hastened reconstruction of the raft. Jerome, along with all those around him at the raft, saw the Black Smoke coming from across the Island, signaling the approach of the Others. Before the launching of the raft, Jerome wrote a letter and gave it to Charlie to put in his message bottle. Jerome, along with his fellow survivors, then helped get the raft into the water, and was present for the official raft launching. Soon after, Jerome followed Sayid to the caves. ("Exodus, Part 1") ("Exodus, Part 2")

Days 44-67 (Season 2)

Jerome hands out food from the food drop. ("Dave")

While hiding at the caves, Jerome listened to Jack inform the group about the Hatch and and assure them that they were going to be safe if they all stuck together for the night. In the morning Jerome returned to the beach along with the other survivors, and unpacked his stuff. The next day, Hurley passed out the food from the Hatch to Jerome and the group. ("Man of Science, Man of Faith") ("Everybody Hates Hugo")

Jerome welcomed the return of Jin, and the new additions of Bernard and Libby, when they arrived at the survivors' camp. The next day, he attended Shannon's funeral. A few weeks later a pallet of DHARMA food and supplies was found on the Island. Jerome stood beside Sawyer in the forest while handing out DHARMA food at the supply drop. The next day Jerome was shown speaking with Richard and Craig, when he was chosen by Bernard to help construct his SOS sign; this scene is the only occasion that Jerome is referred to by name. Jerome seemed to opt not to participate in the construction of the sign. During the discharge, Jerome held his ears and helped clean up the resulting debris. ("Dave") ("S.O.S.")

Jerome talks to Desmond. ("Exposé")

Days 68-91 (Season 3)

Jerome was exchanging items with Desmond the day Nikki asked Sawyer for a gun. Later that day Jerome was one of many survivors who attended Nikki and Paulo's funeral. The next day he ate some of Sawyer's boar roast. When Jack, Sayid, & Kate returned to the camp from escaping from the Others, Jerome was there to greet them. He and the rest of the survivors were shocked to see Juliet coming to their camp and sleeping in their tents. At night time, when Jack was talking to the survivors on getting rescued, Jerome was there to help Claire to her bed tent.
Jerome is shot. ("The Shape of Things to Come")
When it was discovered that the Others were planning to raid the camp, Jerome joined his fellow survivors in preparation for the trip to the radio tower. Later, he was seen walking to the radio tower. ("Exposé") ("One of Us")

Day 91-97 (Season 4)

Jerome celebrated with the other survivors while waiting for rescue. Before journeying to the cockpit, he was seen packing. When the group reach the cockpit, the factions separated and Jerome chose to join Locke's group at the barracks. The next day, he was seen walking to the barracks along with the rest of Locke's people. Before the attack by the mercenary team, Jerome is seen walking around the Barracks. When the Freighties invaded the Barracks, Sawyer was en-route to Claire's house when he came across Doug, who was quickly shot by an unseen member of Martin Keamy's mercenary team. The blonde woman then ran out of her house to find out what happened, but was also shot and killed. Immediately after, Jerome also ran out to help, but he too was also shot and killed by an unseen mercenary. ("The Beginning of the End") ("The Shape of Things to Come")

Alternate Timeline

Season 6

Jerome can be seen walking behind Sun after Oceanic Flight 815 safely lands at LAX. ("LA X, Parts 1 & 2")

The name "Jerome" has only mentioned in the S.O.S. transcript by Bernard, as taken from both the United States closed captioning and DVD subtitles:

BERNARD: I got an idea. [he walks away and goes toward a couple of redshirts] Hey, Richard, Craig, Jerome come here.

S.O.S. transcript

Although it may be deduced for these reasons that this character's name is "Jerome", this labeling of this specific background actor (Jim Mazzarella) is probably not a decision of the writers or casting department; therefore, any narrative of this individual's biography should be considered a fan-creation.
