Paladin Jensen

Paladin Jensen is a Paladin of the Capital Wasteland Brotherhood of Steel who is added to Fallout 3 in the add-on Broken Steel.

He can be found tied up inside a tent in the Talon Company camp in Fort Bannister. After being freed by the player, Jensen explains he was sent to scout out Fort Bannister in preparation for a Brotherhood of Steel assault against Talon Company in response to Talon Company's attacks on Aqua Pura caravans, but was found and captured.

After speaking with the player, Jensen will charge out to attack the Talon Company forces defending Fort Bannister, where without the player's assistance he is almost certain to be mowed down by turrets and missile launcher-wielding Talon Company Mercs. Soon afterwards, a squad of several additional Brotherhood of Steel Paladins (Who can be found waiting for Jensen to the South West of the Main entrance hiding near some rocks) will appear and attack Fort Bannister. They are heavily armed, but also outnumbered by the Talon Company Mercs, and the outcome of the battle is determined by the actions of the AI actors in the combat (and any player intervention).

If Jensen lives long enough he will make a mad dash for Commander Jabsco and will almost certainly be killed by the combined firepower of an Automated Turret (possibly as high level as a MK VIII) The Commander and the Mr. Gutsy he activates (unless the player gets there first).

Paladin Jensen appears only in the Fallout 3 add-on Broken Steel.

Paladin Jensen and the Brotherhood of Steel assault on Fort Bannister will not appear if the player kills Commander Jabsco prior to completing the Take it Back! quest and beginning the new Broken Steel content.

If the player frees Jensen before entering the back way through a passage inside a tent he will find Jensen and two other paladins piled dead atop Commander Jabsco's safe.

  • It is possible to find the rest of Jensen's squad (composed of 2 Paladins and 1 Knight with a Sniper Rifle, Laser Rifle and Gatling Laser between them) directly South of Fort Banister's wrecked Comm tower near an outcropping of rocks, the player can either agree to find Jensen, leave them be or convince them to start the attack early (if you choose to attack now Jensen will untie himself and likely go for the nearby Plasma Pistol then proceed to attack the fort).
  • If you want to improve Jensen's chances for survival; consider reverse pickpocketing a Chinese Assault Rifle and some 5.56mm ammo onto Jensen before releasing him, disarming the mines and eliminating the Talon Merc and Sentry Turret in the tunnel leading to the officer's quarters also help too. Unfortunately he will always detect your presence if you try to give him stimpacks.
  • Paladin Jensen may be a reference to Tek Jansen, a "Mary Sue" avatar of Comedy Channel character Stephen Colbert in Colbert's mock sci fi series, the Tek Jansen Adventures. Jensen strongly resembles Colbert (and by extension, Tek Jansen) and his incompetence, tendency to be captured, and gung-ho attitude all mirror that of the Tek Jansen character. Reverse pickpocket a pair of eyeglasses into his inventory and watch him wear them, and the resemblance is uncanny.
  • He is the only person to wear the Tunnel Snakes haircut besides Butch, and possibly the Lone Wanderer (males only).
  • Paladin Jensen could also be a reference to the infamous Leeroy Jenkins, a World of Warcraft Paladin, who recklessly charged into battle during a guild raid, to the dismay of his confused and distraught guild members, who quickly ran to his aid but were unfortunately slaughtered. It is interesting to note that after he charges in, his teammates will soon follow, and get slaughtered just as Leeroy and his team did.
