Jenny Tanner (née Sutton), arrived in Weatherfield from London in 1968 searching for her sister Monica, who was part of a Hippie commune that had recently been occupying No. 11. There she met Dennis Tanner, who found her a job at the same hotel in which he was employed as a waiter.
Whilst there she had to fend off the unwanted advances of waiter Maurice Rowe, and when Dennis stood up for her he realised his affection for her. Jenny subsequently returned to the South. Dennis followed.
Jenny and Dennis wed on 29th May 1968 with Linda Cheveski in attendance along with Dennis' grandfather Wally Tanner, and Jenny's father Ernie Sutton. The wedding ring was bought with money borrowed from a loan shark at extortionate rates. These debts were paid in full by Elsie.
Following Dennis' promotion at the hotel, Jenny moved with her husband to Bristol.
