History

Obi-Wan Kenobi and Master Yoda walk among the dead.

During the Sacking of Coruscant, the Sith marched through the Main entrance, slaughtering the Temple Security Forces stationed there. Crashing a starship filled with warriors through the main gates, they invaded the Temple, destroying the Main hall along with most of the Temple.

After its reconstruction, the Main Entrance to the Temple was constantly guarded by Padawans during the day, and Jedi Knights during the evening. All watch duties were overseen by the Gate Master. After the death of General Grievous, Master Mace Windu assigned Gate Master Jurokk to seal all entrances and guard the Main Hall. After Anakin Skywalker fell to the Dark side, he led the 501st Legion up the Processional Way. Leaving them at the foot of the stairs, he passed under the great pylons as Jurokk ran out from the ray shield protected entrance. After the newly christened Darth Vader cut down the master he led the troopers into the hall where they were met by several Knights who fought long into the night. After all the Jedi were neutralized, the clones began to compile all the dead in the hall; comparing all Jedi bodies to the Jedi Archives' records, and fallen clones to barrack's rosters.

After the raid, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda fought their way past the clone troopers behind the giant entrance pylons. Once on one of the bridges they found hundreds of Younglings and Jedi Knights slaughtered. The pillars and floors showed the degree of damage the building had sustained from the wild firefight. The Masters proceeded to the summit of the Temple, passing for the last time through the main hall of their home.

New Jedi Temple

Years later, after the fall of the Galactic Empire, the Temple was rebuilt and the hall once more served as the main entrance to the sacred building. The stairs to the Temple once more lead into the main hall; although the bronzium statues had been removed from the design. As an enhanced security measure, two of the Hall's pillars contained security droids that could be deployed by Temple Security Forces.

In 43 ABY, a situation broke out on the steps of the Temple. The two Knights standing guard summoned Jedi Masters Kyp Durron and Cilghal to deal with the Galactic Alliance Security agents landing on the Processional Way. When the masters arrived they found bounty hunters Zilaash Kuh and Vrannin Vaxx, along with a captain arguing with the Knights under the massive pylons at the front of the Temple. Cilghal quickly directed attention to her, and Captain Oric Harfard begin to vent his frustration on her. She read their warrant to enter the Temple and retrieve Valin Horn, and permitted the group of security agents and bounty hunters into the Temple. Before they left, she began to manipulate his mind, urging him to visit the refresher. After the officer had received a very polite dressing-down by Cilghal, Master Durron followed them while the Mon Calamari Jedi contacted Interim Grand Master Kenth Hamner to oversee transportation and Jedi Tekli, who was to prepare Jedi Horn.

After the abduction of Jedi Seff Hellin, Master Hamner appeared on the front steps to denounce claims that the Temple was involved in the conflict that had unfolded the night before. Later the members of the Unit would meet here, only an hour before Jedi Jysella Horn would be overcome by Force Psychosis. Horn hid in a service corridor before running through the entrance. Bazel Warv and Yaqeel Saav'etu would attempt to stop her as she charged down the Processional Way, but she was of Temple grounds when GA security stunned her and claimed jurisdiction.

Sith takeover

When the Temple once more fell into Sith hands, Darth Krayt redesigned the Temple to compensate with the growth of Coruscant's towers. Because the Temple Ziggurat was now hidden behind the rising towers around it, Krayt moved the entrance to the roof of the Ziggurat, which was now 'ground-level' compared with the other buildings in the precinct. Two Sith Lords guarded the entrance at all times, letting only Sith pass through the simple gate.

Layout

The original entrance to the Temple before the Sacking of Coruscant.

During the history of the Temple, the Main entrance took on many incarnations, yet maintained similarities. Before the Sacking of Coruscant, the Processional Way terminated in a great stair which was flanked by six grand bronzium statues: three on either side. The entrance was a large stone wall that was split in the center, which led onto a bridge in the center of the main hall. While tower statues stood to either side of the bridge, the lower floor was lit by glowrods, while the bridge led deeper into the Temple. When the True Sith returned to the galaxy, they crashed a starship through the great doors, ruining the Main entry.

After reconstruction, the Procession would lead up to the stair, past the statues of two Warrior Masters and two Sage Masters, and under the massive stone pylons displaying bass-reliefs of the founding Jedi. Beyond the pylons was a courtyard with a set of red and white steps that led to four passages that emptied into the new, much grander Main Entrance Hall.

A long meditative corridor ran perpendicular to the entrance passages encompassing the perimeter of the Temple complex. The hall leading toward the center of the Temple was outlined by bridges that led to upper levels. Life-sized statues lined the way from the entrance up through the hall; a large statue in the form of a woman stood in the center. Flights of stairs were spread throughout the hall, leading onto higher platforms. Just beyond the rear wall of columns was the Great Hall, a meeting place for large numbers of Jedi.
