Famed Jedi Consular Yoda.
"A Consular is a specialized kind of Jedi. They focus more on cerebral Force skills. They're our healers, our researchers, our seers."
Zayne Carrick

A Jedi Consular (also called a Jedi seer) was, like all Jedi, skilled in battle, but rarely entered combat, preferring to study the mysteries of the Force.[1] Consulars were the primary scholars and diplomats and seers of the Order, often becoming instructors.[2]

What the Jedi Guardian preferred to achieve by combat, the Jedi Consular achieved by words or the Force. Traditionally, they wielded a green lightsaber, but, like all Jedi, they were free to choose their own color for the blade.[3]

Jedi Consular unlike Jedi Guardian was an actual rank within the Jedi Order and when they attained the rank of Jedi Master, consulars became known as Sage Masters.

Two Sage Masters joined with two Warrior Masters to build the initial Jedi Temple on Coruscant.[4]

The use of the term Jedi Consular was originally limited to the Star Wars Roleplaying Game. However, the term was canonized in The New Essential Chronology and the Knights of the Old Republic comics. However, their role in these depictions were changed slightly. The Jedi Consular was never displayed to be more proficient in the use of the Force, nor did they used the Force as a direct weapon in any manner not also practiced by other Jedi. The Jedi Consular was instead shown to be a Jedi skilled in methods of diplomacy and instruction.

Just as some Jedi Guardians have the Force potency of Consulars, many Consulars were very proficiety with lightsaber combat. Nomi Sunrider, Vima Sunrider, Yoda, Shaak Ti, and Kit Fisto were also notable as being among the best lightsaber duelists of their time.

Jedi Consulars who have fallen to the dark side still rarely fight in physical combat. Dark Jedi Consulars (or Sith Lords as a prestige class in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords) use the Force to crush their enemies as opposed to using lightsabers. In the MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic, the Sith Inquisitor is the Jedi Consular's foil.
