James Luceno (b. 1947—) is the author of several Star Wars novels and reference books under DK Publishing and LucasBooks. In addition to his Star Wars writings, Luceno and Brian Daley (under the pen name "Jack McKinney") wrote the novelizations of the Robotech series and the Black Hole Travel Agency series.

He has said he would be interested in writing a book detailing Qui-Gon Jinn's and Darth Plagueis's searches for immortality.

As of March 27, 2007, Sue Rostoni has said in her blog the following, regarding the decision to cancel Luceno's Darth Plagueis novel:

"You'll still see Jim Luceno around, though, as he's an author we are not willing to lose."
― Sue Rostoni

In April 2009, Luceno was reported to be in negotiations to write a new Star Wars novel.[1]
