Iran was a nation-state in southwest Asia on planet Earth, historically known as Persia. It was the center of a vast empire from the 7th century BCE to the 4th century BCE, when the region was conquered by Alexander the Great.

The primary language of Iran is Farsi (also known as "Persian").

Iranians were historically enemies of the Arabian people, a fact that briefly came to the mind of Ensign Faisal Prince during a stressful mission with fellow Ensign Rustam Kavousi, a Human of Iranian descent from the colony world of New Persia. The two 23rd century men were, of course, able to disregard this history and put their temporary anger toward each other aside quickly. (TOS novel: Vulcan's Forge)

Iran Ryad was an Imperial politician and starfighter ace.

Biography

A Human female, Countess Iran Ryad forged a career as a politician in the Galactic Empire. Throughout her life, she developed a fascination not only for politics, but also for the Imperial Navy and starfighters. The latter obsession encouraged Ryad to seek training as a starfighter pilot, a hobby enabled by her political connections and prodigious wealth.

In 4 ABY, the Galactic Empire suffered a major defeat at the Battle of Endor at the hands of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Emperor Palpatine himself was killed, as was his executor, Darth Vader. Furthermore, the second Death Star was destroyed and the Imperial Navy was deprived of leadership. The Empire began to faction, with rival military figures declaring themselves warlords.

Countess Ryad abandoned her career as a politician and became an Imperial pilot, utilizing her connections and wealth to procure a personal starfighter. The countess led a wing of four TIE/D Defenders on patrols of the Coreward borders of the Imperial Remnant, which served as the bulk of the territories still possessed by the Empire. An advanced TIE series starfighter, TIE/D Defenders were rarely deployed by the Imperial Navy due to the model's departure from the series' norm.

For over a year, Ryad successfully led her fellow pilots on twelve separate patrols of the Imperial borders, during which time she scored a high number of kills and became a starfighter ace. Her achievements resulted in her command of Red Star Squadron. Ryad led the squadron in the Red Star 1. A TIE/D Defender that, at the cost of 265,000 credits, Ryad modified herself, the Red Star 1 possessed an advanced ion drive, shielding system and fire control system.

Together with her pilots, Ryad continued to impose her zero-tolerance border policy, relentlessly pursuing those starships that entered Imperial space without permission. She gained a rival in another notable Imperial pilot, Baron Soontir Fel, a veteran of the Galactic Civil War loyal to Ysanne Isard, the former Director of Imperial Intelligence who served as the steward of the Empire following Palpatine's death. When Iran Ryad was accused of treason, she was hunted down and killed by Fel.
