The International Space Station, or ISS, was an early Earth space station that was in operation during the 20th and 21st centuries.

The ISS represented one of humanity's first international efforts to explore space - with NASA (United States of America), the Russian Federal Space Agency (Russia), the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (Japan), the Canadian Space Agency (Canada), and the European Space Agency all participating in the project.

The first module of the space station was put into orbit in November 1998. Construction was delayed by the destruction of the space shuttle Columbia. However construction resumed, and during the 21st century the space station was expanded considerably. (Star Trek: Enterprise).

The ISS was one of a number of images presented to Jonathan Archer after he and the crew of the Enterprise (NX-01) repaired the damage to the time line. (ENT episode: Storm Front, Part II).

Benjamin Sisko had a model of the ISS in his office aboard Deep Space 9. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine set decoration, Star Trek Encyclopedia)
