Interlude at Darkknell is a four-part novella coauthored by Timothy Zahn and Michael A. Stackpole, parts one and four being written by Zahn and parts two, three, and the epilogue by Stackpole. It was published in the compilation of short stories Tales from the New Republic by Del Rey in December 1999. It was also included in a Czech-language anthology Setkání v mlze in July 2009.

Plot summary

The novella pits Senator Garm Bel Iblis, who is believed to have died along with his family at the hands of an Imperial assassin, and CorSec inspector Hal Horn against one of the Empire's most dangerous agents—namely, Ysanne Isard. Moranda Savich, hiding from Inspector Horn, acquires a pack of datacards that include sensitive Imperial information. Isard, with her cohorts, seeks to retrieve the datacards at the behest of Armand Isard. It is set in about 0 BBY.
