Interceptor

Interceptor is a character in Final Fantasy VI. He is Shadow's dog, and does not leave his side. Shadow likes to claim that he eats strangers. For the most part, this is true. Interceptor can be ruthless at times, especially when Shadow is in danger. However, Interceptor is friendly and playful to Relm Arrowny. This is one of the clues in the game that Shadow is Relm's father.

In Battle

Interceptor can help out in battle if Shadow is in the party, not on the Floating Continent, and if Shadow did not have Rippler cast on him. If Shadow is attacked physically, there is a chance that Interceptor will parry for Shadow, and thus he will take no damage. If this happens, there is a small chance Interceptor will counterattack with Wild Fang or Takedown, which deal defense-penetrating magic damage to the enemy. These counterattacks do not hit floating targets.

Also, should the player choose not to wait for Shadow on the Floating Continent, Interceptor's parry and attack moves will be done if Relm is physically attacked instead.

Trivia

  • Interceptor makes a cameo appearance, alongside Shadow, in Dissidia Final Fantasy as a tutor from the in-game manuals.

An interceptor was a type of starship in the inventory of most galactic supergovernments, including the United Federation of Planets. In practice, though, interceptors were just larger perimeter action ships (compared to, e.g., Akyazi-class).

As such, their mission profiles were high-warp military engagements. However, their larger size permitted longer mission durations and larger crews, comparable to that of the Dupleix-class prototype larger perimeter action ship of the 2290s.

Examples of this type of vessel in the United Federation of Planets Starfleet inventory included the Daredevil- and Albireo-type interceptors (Orion Press) developed before the Organian Treaty and the Catchon-class interceptors that first entered service ca. 2275.

This article is about a starfighter classification. You may be looking for the Nebulon-B escort frigate Interceptor.
A Jedi Interceptor

Interceptors were fast and maneuverable starfighters. They were designed specifically to target, hunt down, and destroy enemy craft, hence the name interceptor, and thus were generally unsuited to carrying heavy bombing payloads. Interceptors could also be used for reconnaissance due to their high speed. During his campaign, Grand Admiral Thrawn noted the weakness in keeping fast interceptors close to a convoy for escort.
