From Yu-Gi-Oh!

An Infinite Loop is a never-ending cycle of cards trying to resolve.

Because of this, a ruling was introduced that states you may not activate a card knowing that it will cause an Infinite Loop.

One example: You have an active Cyber Phoenix on your side of the field in Attack Position; in that state, Cyber Phoenix causes all Spell and Trap effects that target Machines under your control to be negated. You activate "Snatch Steal" to grab an opponent's Machine monster and place it under your control; however, Snatch Steal is an Equip Spell card and the moment the opponent's Machine is on your side of the field, it is negated, so control reverts to the opponent, re-activating Snatch Steal, gaining control of the opponent's monster, then losing it again, etc.

See Pole Position's rulings for more examples of Infinite Loops.
