The Titanians only communicate telepathically, having lost use of their vocal cords due to centuries of evolution.
As a result, Imra only "talks" by broadcasting her thoughts to her fellow Legion members. She is still able to read minds, but cannot express herself in spoken language, which puts her at a disadvantage in those situations where her telepathy is useless.
She is unable to probe shielded minds, and must concentrate to exert direct influence on an opponent's brain (such as disrupting an opponent's amygdala). Her mother, (a United Planets ambassador) seems more skilled than her daughter, able to instinctively sense when Imra is using her telepathy.
Imra engages in emotional isolation, and has a very serious, introverted demeanor. This may, in part, be caused by shame over her muteness, which she managed to keep secret from the Legion (with the exception of Lightning Lad) for quite some time. In fact, Lightning Lad seems to be the only one Imra feels comfortable opening up to.Telepathy: Saturn Girl can read peoples' minds in detail, either by consciously willing it or by mentally picking up their stray thoughts. Via her telepathy, she can also send messages into the minds of others, sounding like her own voice inside their heads, or place knowledge of certain things into people's minds. Using a combination of these methods, she can interpret unknown alien languages. She can send or receive telepathic messages to or from the Phantom Zone.
Mute: She can't speak though usual means either, which puts her in disadvantage in situations where telepathy is useless.
Telepathic Range Confusion: As mentioned before, there is a range to Saturn Girl's ability to contact people telepathically, and Imra's ability to distinguish between a dead or unconscious person is tenuous.
Mental Disruption: She cannot read the mind of a person with amnesia, someone who is hypnotized from another source, or a stunned or unconscious mind. Unconscious minds also cannot receive any telepathic commands.[1]
Psychic Shock: She is vulnerable to being knocked unconscious by psychic shock impulses.
Saturn Girl made her first animated appearance on an episode of Superman: The Animated Series "New Kids in Town" where she was voiced by Melissa Joan Hart. She made a cameo appearance in the Justice League Unlimited episode "Far From Home" and was a regularly featured character on the Legion of Super-Heroes animated series, this time voiced by Kari Wahlgren. Due to the differences in voice talents and animation styles, it is reasonable to assume that each version of Saturn Girl that appeared in a different series is from an alternate parallel universe.
