The Horizon class was a type of early Earth/Federation exploration ship, as presented in the Star Trek Spaceflight Chronology. It had limited weapons and defences, with a maximum speed of warp 3.

The Horizon-class cruiser was a type of starship in Starfleet service during the late 22nd and early 23rd centuries. Similar in appearance to the Daedalus-class ships of the Earth Starfleet that were later integrated into the nascent United Federation of Planets Starfleet, the Horizon class was larger and more capable. (Star Trek: Avenger: "The Essential Process")

It is unclear as to which Horizon — Daedalus-class or Horizon-class — was the ship that left the book Chicago Mobs of the Twenties on Sigma Iotia II. (TOS: "A Piece of the Action")

The spaceframe of the Horizon-class USS Gauss would be used to construct the Archon-class prototype.

The Horizon-class USS Constellation was later rebuilt as a Constitution-class heavy cruiser, hence the low registration number in comparison with most other vessels of the Constitution class. (USS Enterprise Heavy Cruiser Evolution Plans; Ships of the Star Fleet, vol. 1)
