" I don't like running..."

Hippaul is a minor character in Final Fantasy IX who lives in Alexandria. Hippaul's Father owns the Hotel in Alexandria and Zidane notices that the boy seems to be more adept at managing it than his Father is.

Something of a Tetra Master expert, Hippaul's stash of Cards can be found in the Bell Tower of Alexandria, his stash varies depending on when it is found. If found during Disc One the stash contains an Ironite Card, a Goblin Card and a Fang Card. On Disc Three, the stash will include rare Eidolon Cards; Shiva and Ramuh, as well as the other cards if they were missed on Disc One.

Racing Hippaul

Hippaul can also be challanged to a footrace at the beginning of Disc Three. Hippaul, along with his mother, can be found on the main street in Alexandria. Talk with his mother, and she'll mention that she wants her son to lose some weight. The player controls Vivi and must press Image:Square-button.png and Image:Circle-button.png in quick succession to beat him. Racing Hippaul is the only way to obtain the rare Key Item Athlete Queen. Genji and Ribbon Cards can also be won in this Mini-game.

Hippaul gains levels as he loses to Vivi during the successive races. He quickly becomes extremely fast and difficult to defeat. Every ten levels up to 80 you are rewarded with a prize; there are no rewards at levels 90 or 100. Hippaul gains five levels if Vivi beats him by a lot but he only gains one level otherwise.

Level 10 Wyerd Card
Level 20 Carrion Worm Card
Level 30 Tantarian Card
Level 40 Armstrong Card
Level 50 Ribbon Card
Level 60 Nova Dragon Card
Level 70 Genji Card
Level 80 Athlete Queen

There are several methods for making this task slightly easier. The most basic is to reconfigure the controller so that instead of Image:Square-button.png and Image:Circle-button.png, you have to press, say, L1 and R1. Another technique, albeit one with minimal effect, is to open the disc cover or disc tray, as this slows the game down very slightly. It is worth noting that jumping the gun is impossible, so you can start pressing the buttons before the race begins to get into the rhythm. Also bear in mind that, if you're willing to treat the controller this roughly, it can be easier, for example, to configure opposing shoulder buttons and place the controller upside down on a solid surface, rocking it left and right to press the buttons.
