The Hill of Despair is the location of the final battle of Final Fantasy IX, where Necron is fought. The party reach it after battling Trance Kuja.
After being defeated by Kuja, Zidane Tribal finds himself with his friends at the Hill of Despair, where Necron speaks. As the entity explains its single and only purpose, to destroy all life, Zidane valiantly takes his weapon, and fiercely battles it. After defeating Necron, the heroes are transported to the area outside of the Iifa Tree.
