Hilda Alice Ogden (née Crabtree), played by Jean Alexander, appeared from 1964 to 1987.

Hilda and her husband Stan (played by Bernard Youens) were the traditional unlucky couple on the programme, beset with every financial woe and with few friends. Hilda worked as a char, cleaning the Rovers Return Inn, Mike Baldwin's factory and private homes, while Stan cleaned windows.

Hilda and Stan had four children. Two children, Sylvia and Tony, were not seen on the series with the explanation that they were taken into care when Stan beat them while drunk. Over time, the writers did not mention the two children, Sylvia and Tony, and it was as if they never existed.

Their other children were seen on the programme and were named Irma and Trevor. Trevor stole money and ran away within the first six months of arriving on the Street, writing back home to ask Hilda to disown him. Hilda's daughter Irma worked at the Corner Shop and eventually married David Barlow. Irma was crushed when David and her child were killed in Australia in 1970. Irma returned home for a few years, but then vanished, with the explanation being she had moved to Wales, and later Canada. She had little contact with her family. Trevor eventually married and gave Hilda and Stan a grandson, but was ashamed of the life his parents led and only made the occasional visit.

Hilda's most remembered attributes were her curlers which she almost always wore, her "pinny", and her "muriel" in her living room, which first showed a scene of the Alpine mountains but was later changed to a coastal scene with three duck ornaments "flying" over them. She considered herself clairvoyant and offered teacup readings.

The character of Hilda Ogden was very popular with the British public — in 1982 she came fourth behind the Queen Mother, the Queen, and Princess Diana in a poll of the most recognizable women in Britain.

Lodging with the Ogdens from 1980 to 1983 was Eddie Yeats, their surrogate son, and, after Stan died in late 1984 - just a few years after celebrating their Ruby Wedding - Hilda got extra money by allowing Kevin and Sally Webster to live in one of her vacant rooms. Shortly afterwards Hilda's employers, the affluent Doctor Lowther and his wife, made the decision to sell their home and move to Hartington. However, on the night that Hilda helped Mrs Lowther pack away her treasured possessions, burglars broke into the house and violently assaulted them both. Doctor Lowther, who had gone out to get a takeaway meal, was horrified to discover his wife dead and Hilda seriously injured.

Although she made a full recovery physically, mentally she became afraid to be in her own home. When Doctor Lowther asked her to move to Derby and be his housekeeper, she jumped at the chance. When Hilda left the programme on Christmas Day 1987, she sang "Wish Me Luck As You Wave Me Goodbye", in her trademark trilling voice; it was watched by an aggregated audience of 26.65 million people, one of the highest audiences in British television history.

Performer:
Gonzo asks Hilda to mend his teddy-bear.

Hilda is the seamstress/wardrobe mistress on The Muppet Show. For the most part, she only appears in the first season of the show; she makes rare appearances as a background character later. Hilda speaks with an Eastern European accent.

Hilda usually appeared backstage. Her onstage appearances include introducing Vincent Price in a scary sketch set in Transylvania, which she claims is her homeland. She participated in the Panel Discussion:"What is Man's Role in the Universe?" in episode 109. She was one of the library patrons who played "The Blue Danube" in episode 124. She also occasionally sang backup for numbers such as "Friends", "I Got a Name", "There's No Business Like Show Business", and "(Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song".

In episode 118, she tries to appear younger by wearing a wig, putting on makeup, and even fitting her figure into a corset (until it blows a gasket). She goes to these lengths because no one believes her when she claims she is only 35 years old.

In episode 102, Gonzo begs her to mend his teddy bear.

Hilda was one of the central backstage characters in the first season. After performer Eren Ozker left at the end of season one, Hilda appeared in the background in a couple of episodes, but didn't have any more speaking roles.

Hilda Egglebrecht was the ancestor of Agatha, an elderly resident of the Capital Wasteland. The Soil Stradivarius which Agatha seeks for the quest Agatha's Song once belonged to Hilda. As a talented musician, she was asked to join the artistic and musical elite in Vault 92. During her time in the Vault, she was involved with Parker Livingsteen, the young sound technician operating the recording Sound Lab she regularly played in. She presumably was murdered along with most or all of its residents during the Vault-Tec experiments there (although a laser pistol can be found beside the skeleton near the door, suggesting that they had killed the other and tried to escape via the locked door).

Judging from the logs of her lover, it is likely that Hilda died with him, locked in the Sound Lab when the Vault-Tec white noise experiments drove the residents violently insane, causing the deaths of most of the Vault population and the failure of Vault 92. Her prized violin was left sealed in the Sound Lab next to the skeletons of Hilda and her lover.

Hilda was once a free dwarf hailing from East Keldagrim, now a deceased servant of the Red Axe. She was killed by the player during Forgiveness of a Chaos Dwarf. She was a love interest of Commander Veldaban's.

History

Early life

Not much is known about Hilda's early life, other than she spent a childhood in the slums of East Keldagrim with her brother. She met Commander Veldaban three weeks before the player started Forgiveness of a Chaos Dwarf, when she went to Black Guard Headquarters to report her missing brother, stealing a rich dwarf's bearskin shawl to make a good appearance. She returned the shawl and teamed up with Veldaban. They discovered Red Axe's base, but were discovered, ending with Commander Veldaban having his memory wiped and Hilda being turned into a Chaos dwarf.

Forgiveness of a Chaos Dwarf

Hilda was one of the Chaos Dwarves that attacked the Keldagrim mines. She was unknowingly killed by the player.
