Lieutenant Hawk was a Starfleet officer who served as flight controller aboard the USS Enterprise-E from 2372-2373. During the ship's mission to stop the Borg in 2063, Hawk was partially assimilated and subsequently shot by Lt. Commander Worf on the ship's outer hull. His body flew into space. In 2372, Lieutenant Neal Hawk was part of a "patriot" commando team that snuck past the blockade of Sector 001 to "liberate" the USS Enterprise-E.
