Haley is one of the inhabitants of Point Lookout. He is the store manager and owner of Haley's Hardware in the year 2277. He is the only merchant capable of fully repairing vendor-repair-only items such as the T-51b Power Armor and the Shady Hat. (See Notes section below)

Contents

Background

Haley awoke one day inside the store with a terrible headache. Apparently, he had amnesia, but saw fit to continue to live in the store since most of it was already stocked. His customers kept coming in, so he decided to make trading his career. He often does business with the Swampfolk and Smugglers, who supply him with an ample amount of ammunition and weapons. He could have been someone seeking to join the tribals, but lost his memory when Tobar did his surgery. That would explain his headache, and due to the fact that the mirror inside is shattered, and the murky water, it's possible he never knew about his scar because he never got to look at it.

Daily schedule

Haley sits in his shop all day selling goods to anyone that comes by.

Notes

  • Haley wears the unique Handyman Jumpsuit.
  • He has a higher Repair skill than the other trader in Point Lookout, Panada, 11 compared to 5.
  • Apparently the swampfolk know he is a local and so don't attack him (unlike Kenny).
  • With every successive "visit" to Haley's Hardware, Haley's Repair skill increases by 5 points up to the maximum 100 points allowing vendor-repair only items to be fully repaired. This is also listed below as a "bug", but it may have been intentional by some developer(s). The increases in skill are permanent and are an inevitable consequence of frequent visits to his shop throughout the game. It merely requires that the shop be re-loaded by the player's system, should one want to exploit this feature. This is easily achieved by walking far enough away to load a new cell, and then walking back and re-entering the shop. The end of the dock to the south is far enough away for most systems.
  • It is recommended that you bring a large or fairly-large amount of caps if you are planning to repair your items. With Haley's repair bug, many of the prices he once offered for his services will continue to rise as his repair skill increases. It is also a good idea to wear out weapons which don't need immediate repair before bringing them to Haley as to avoid unnecessary repairing and spending of your precious caps (implying that your equipment is in decent shape already and that you are willing to have it repaired at a higher price).
  • Although he claims he can't remember anything before he woke up in the shop, he mentions that he was born in Point Lookout.

Bugs

  • Haley's Repair skill can be raised through use of a glitch. It is somehow affected by entering and leaving his store. Doing so will raise his skill by 3. If a loading screen doesn't appear while entering the store, the glitch doesn't operate. It seems that the PC has to stay out of the store for a small amount of time, usually >10 seconds, allowing the game to take away the loaded status of Haley's store in order to load the surroundings more. In short, this glitch can only be successfully done after waiting outside for about 8 seconds, or going directly out the front door to the small "hill" outside of Haley's and back. This can also only be done if he still has his original jumpsuit on.
  • If you don't want to wait outside, or for some reason the method described above does not induce a loading screen, enter the store, then exit, quicksave and quickload. Upon returning to Haley the result should be the same as described above.
  • For the PC version, there is a quicker way to exploit the glitch than the two methods described above. Once you exit Haley's store, open up the console and type "pcb" without the quotes, then re-enter. This purges the cell buffer, eliminating the need to wait.
  • Through this glitch, one can finally bring very well-worn unique weapons, such as the Gauss Rifle or the Tesla Cannon, or special armor, such as T-51b Power Armor, back to 100% condition. This glitch appears on all systems. A mod fix for PC is available.
  • Haley has unlimited Stimpaks on the PS3-version.
  • Once caught pickpocketing Haley, Haley can no longer be pickpocketed, even after many in-game months.
  • To avoid Haley's repair skill from resetting, as well as to ensure that his skill increases with each visit, simply fast travel to the Ritual Site to the southeast (this is the closest map location to Haley's Hardware, and therefore the quickest and easiest, although any location will work), and then fast travel back to Haley's Hardware after every successive skill increase. Upon entering, you will find that his repair skill has increased by 3 with no reset (XBOX 360, PS3 confirmed).
  • When speaking to Haley, you can ask him " Where do you get your stock from?". In his reply, he will speak the word mercs at the end of his sentence, but smugglers will be written in the dialog box.
  • The glitch for raising Haley's Repair skill is caused by his suit, removing it causes the glitch to stop working. So don't reverse pickpocket him for it if you want make his repair grow higher.

Appearances

Haley appears only in the Fallout 3 add-on Point Lookout.
