The Grenade Launcher is a cut content weapon in Broken Steel which is listed in the G.E.C.K. but was not placed in game. It's a modified Drum-Magazine Combat Shotgun that shoots grenades instead of shotgun shells.

This weapon was created during one of Bethesda's tutorials on how to use the GECK and appears to be left in the game.

From Grand Theft Wiki

The Grenade Launcher is a weapon that appears in Grand Theft Auto IV's episodes, The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony. The grenade launcher fires 40 mm grenades greater distances than a person throwing a hand grenade and is about as effective as a pipe bomb. It is best for removing cover, such as a car, however, the grenade does not land in a particular spot, making it less accurate. The grenade detonates on a seven second fuse. Grenades can be fired at and bounced off walls to reach tricky targets. When engaging long range targets, the player must arc the shot (aim higher than the target) in order to compensate for gravity. Although the grenade launcher is ill-suited for aerial targets, the player can carry more rounds than the RPG allows.

The Grenade Launcher is the only weapon from The Lost and Damned to be available in The Ballad of Gay Tony. It features an interesting improvement in which the grenade explodes on impact if it hits a vehicle or person. Also, the time it takes for the grenade to explode has been shortened to about 4 seconds.

  • It was originally going to make an appearance in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City but was taken out without any explanation.
  • Whenever a grenade from this hits the rotor on any helicopter, the helicopter will either instantly lose its rotor, lose its tail, explode, or start smoking.

"“The only thing I can think of that would make the MA5C any sweeter would be an under-slung shotty or a forty mike mike.”"
—Anonymous UNSC Serviceman
An M301 Grenade Launcher attachment mounted on top of the barrel of an NA4 Flamethrower.

The M301 40mm Grenade Launcher, also known as the "forty mike-mike" among troops was a United Nations Space Command weapon designed to fire explosive grenades. It can be attached to the MA5B and MA5C Assault Rifles[1] and NA4 Flamethrower.

In assault rifles, the launcher is fitted under the barrel, replacing the flashlight attachment standard to the MA5 series. Hellbringers were equipped with this to launch flashbang grenades used to stun and surprise enemy troops [2].

The M301 may be related to the modern-day M203 Grenade Launcher, an underslung weapon that could be attached to assault rifles and other weapons. Since Hellbringers don't appear to carry an entirely different weapon apart from their NA4 Flamethrower, the M301 was indeed more likely a grenade launcher attachment rather than a stand-alone weapon.

  • The M301 wasn't confirmed as a weapon attachment until the release of the Hellbringer action figure, clearly sporting the grenade attachment that wasn't seen in previous artwork.
  • It was originally meant to be part of the MA5B during the development phase of Halo: Combat Evolved, while it was still intended for the PC. As such, its canonicity was debatable until mentioned by Bungie in a description of the MA5C.

From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.

A grenade launcher was a weapon used to shoot grenades over longer distances than they could usually be thrown. Grenade launchers could also be mounted to starfighters, making it possible for some ships to fire concussion grenades. By adding these launchers, a starfighters overall effectiveness could be greatly raised. Some of the most common types of grenade launchers was the Thermal Detonator Launcher and the EMP Launcher. The Galactic Empire's Merr-Sonn Mobile Grenade Mortar was the vehicle form of a grenade launcher. The Grenade Mortor could fire up to one hundred grenades per second. The Empire also sometimes equipped grenade launchers on a Mobile Defense Unit.
