An inventory image of Dharoks Greataxe

Dharok's Greataxe is a part of Dharok the Wretched's set of barrows equipment and is a melee weapon. It is wielded in two hands and requires 70 Attack and 70 Strength to wield. It has the fifth highest slash attack bonus in the game with +103 and the second highest crush attack bonus with +95. As with all Barrows equipment, this item degrades over time and cannot be made using the Smithing skill.

If Dharok's Greataxe is wielded along with all of the other pieces of equipment in Dharok's barrows set, a special effect occurs. Attacks can more damage as the player's Hitpoints decrease, up to double damage at 10% hitpoints.  This weapon is very slow, the same speed as a Two-handed sword, allowing opponents to attack you multiple times before you can attack once and making it a poor choice for training. However the high slash and strength bonus make up for its lack of speed.

The axe will degrade from 100 to 75 then to 50 until it reaches 0. This weapon can be fixed at Bob's Axes in Lumbridge, Tindel Merchant in Port Khazard and Dunstan in Burthorpe. The price varies on the level it has degraded. It costs 100,000 coins to repair it from 0.

The way the player holds the Greataxe depends on the level of Degradation. Wielding a fully repaired Greataxe resembles wielding a Granite maul or a Tzhaar-ket-om. While wielding a completely degraded Greataxe slightly resembles  a Dragon longsword.

Dharoking is a popular method of player Killing utilizing the full Dharok's set. A player will purposely let his health points reach a low level by either letting himself get hit by an attacking player or using items. Once the player reaches the desired health point level the player will then activate the corresponding prayer to protect from his attacker then and then attack; causing damage in the 40s, 50s, and even over 90. The maximum hit with the Dharok set effect is believed to be 126.

Dharok's greataxe is commonly used in the TzHaar city to fight the TzHaar-Ket and TzHaar-Xil, as the full set effect can do large amounts of damage with little effort and the drops received from training can pay for the cost of repairs.

Because of its high slash and strength bonus it is the closest alternative to a godword.

On 28 July 2009, the axe received a graphical makeover.

* - Dharok's greataxe can only be traded when undamaged or fully broken.

The old look of Dharok's Greataxe.
  • In the quest While Guthix Sleeps, at one point the player's combat stats are increased to 255. Theoretically the Dharok set special would be able to hit 270+ on the Tormented Demon; however the player's hitpoints will instantly restore to 255 when damage is taken, so it is not possible for a player to lower their hitpoints enough.
  • During the Graphical Update, Dharok's Axe was first held over the shoulder, with both hands, then over the shoulder again, then it got glitched because Jagex kept on varying it. This has been fixed by Jagex. To do the glitch, players would hold a Dharok's Axe and open their combat interface menu. It would glitch and result in it being held to something like a Dragon longsword.
  • After the 28 July 2009 Animation Pack updates, the great axe held by Dharok the Wretched at the Barrows mini game stayed the same as Greataxes were before this update.
  • The graphics of the Greataxe in a player's inventory remained the same after the graphical update, and differs from when it is equipped in terms of looks. After the Champion's Challenge and Hairstyles update, the sprite was changed to match the look of the Greataxe when you wield it.
  • Currently the Dharok's Greataxe has no proper walking or running animation. it has a default animation, similar to a player running/walking with it in a free world.
  • The axe appears to have a different inventory display for every level of degradation (100, 75, 50, 25, 0). It is the only degrading item to do so, most others only have a "100" and "0" (or "worn-out") display.
  • The difference between the Dharok's Greataxe inventory icon and wielded model were resolved on 9 November 2009.
  • Strangely, in the Grand Exchange database, the image of the Dharok's greataxe inventory and the model are not up to date.
  • Balmung appears to have a similar appearance to Dharok's greataxe.
  • Strangely the Dharoks Greataxe gives negative Ranged Defence Bonus unlike most other Melee weapons
  • Dharok's Greataxe is held similarly to the Granite Maul.
