The Granite maul is a granite weapon that requires level 50 Strength and level 50 Attack to wield. It is 2-handed, so no shield can be wielded at the same time as it is being used. It is dropped by Gargoyles, which are Slayer monsters, and can only be used in combat.

The granite maul has a special attack, Quick Smash, which causes the player to attack instantly, even if they just attacked. It uses 50% of a player's special attack bar. This allows the granite maul to execute 3 potentially very damaging hits in extremely short succession if a player has good timing. It was usually used as a player killing weapon before the 10 December updates. It is now used in Bounty Hunter Worlds and PvP worlds. This weapon cannot be made using the Smithing skill.

In early March 2007, a glitch that allowed infinite iterations of its Special attack was discovered and abused by many players. The glitch was later fixed by Jagex. This was a popular scamming item because it resembles the Rock hammer. Some people advertised Rock hammers as Granite mauls to inexperienced players who did not know the difference; however, after the trading limit update, people could no longer use this scam.

When PvP worlds were released, the price of the Granite Maul went up from around 50,000 to 150,000 coins. Again, when bounty worlds were released, the Granite Maul went up again, to 250,000 coins. The price is now 502,222

Trivia

• If you use the Granite Maul's Special Attack right after the normal attack, the two weapons sounds seem to blend together.
• The Granite Maul and Granite mace can hit up to 4 times quickly by proper timing. For a very damaging hit, wait two seconds after your regular swing and click the special bar.
• During the 9 June Rest update, there was a glitch where the Granite Maul special was not working.
• Around June 2004 , there was a glitch where the Granite Maul special attack was unlimited, meaning you could repeatedly click on the special and hit 50 times in 10 seconds.
• When placing bones in the hopper while creating bonemeal for the Ectofuntus, the Granite Maul will temporarily be held in one hand.
• Granite Maul is held similarly to Dharok's Greataxe
• While standing still in Soul Wars it will be held in one hand.
