The Golden Gate, its namesake bridge, and the city of San Francisco in 2273.

The Golden Gate is the straight which connects San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean, approximately 2 kilometers wide at its narrowest point.

Starfleet maintains facilities on the peninsulas which form both the north and south shores of the straight.

Since 1937 the Gate has been spanned by the Golden Gate Bridge.

"Golden Gate" was also the codeword used by Starfleet Security for a presidential shuttle trip, a reference to the Breen attack on the region in 2375 and the complexities of arranging security for such a trip. (ST novel: Articles of the Federation)

The Golden Gate is a location in San Francisco. Once the symbol of the city, ever since the War, the bridge decayed, slowly falling prey to the elements. A pre-war sect, the Hubologists, built their headquarters into the foundation of the southern end of the Gate, but they were unsuccesful in maintaining the bridge, due to their technological ineptitude.

What they were succesful in, however, is procuring a space shuttle from the nearby launch base and place in on the tarmac in front of the bridge. Dubbed the USS Quetzel, it's supposedly their passageway to the stars and beyond.

The Compound

Built into the concrete foundation is the Hubologist compound. The original purpose of the facility is not known, but judging by the arrangement of the corridors and substantial protection (entrance is prevented by forcefields) it was likely some kind of reinforced shelter. Regardless, in 2241 it's the headquarters of the Hubologists.

It has all the necessary facilities for a cult - quarters for the guards, large dormitory and meditation room for rank-and-file members, the AHS-9s office and quarters, mess hall and lavatories, workshops and a mainframe.

Appearances

Golden Gate only appears in Fallout 2.
