A Gold Bar is a bar of refined gold. A gold bar can be created through the Smithing skill at level 40 by using a gold ore with a furnace or by casting the spell Superheat item on a gold ore. This normally gives 22.5 Smithing experience per bar, but if the Goldsmith's gauntlets from the quest Family Crest are worn, then the experience is boosted to 56.2 smithing experience per bar.

Gold bars can be smelted in a furnace through the Crafting skill with different moulds to create various pieces of gold Jewellery.

Value

A gold ore is worth approximately 313 coins, while a gold bar is worth approximately 108 coins. Thus, a gold bar is worth significantly less than the gold ore from which it is smelted. Despite the loss, players often make gold bars to gain smithing experience.

Gold bars themselves can be made into gold bracelets or gold amulets for a profit.

Trivia

• The "gold" in Onyx jewellery appears black even though the gold it is made from is yellow.
• Using the Goldsmith's gauntlets makes smithing gold bars give more experience than smithing Runite bars. (56.2 experience versus 50 experience)
• Gold leaves that are used in Construction for higher leveled furniture can not be created through grinding down a Gold bar. They can only be purchased through the Stonemason or Grand Exchange.
• While gold bars are extremely valuable in real life, in Gielinor they are not very valuable. Gold bars are often seen as a by-product of gaining smithing experience by smelting gold ores.
• Though the currency in Runescape is gold coins, the coins themselves cannot made from gold bars. For obvious reasons, there is no coin mould either.
• Gold bars are smithed into golden bowls during the Legends Quest, and a Gold helmet plus a golden cannonball are smithed during the Between a Rock... quest.
• A gold bar is a reward for the Goblin Diplomacy Quest.
