Gizmo in game

Gizmo is the wealthy owner of the casino and boxing ring in Junktown, during 2161.

Contents

Background

Gizmo runs "Gizmo's casino" and often uses the Skulz to do his dirty work. His bodyguard, a master martial artist named Izo, rarely, if ever leaves his side. He partakes in numerous illicit businesses on the side, and has several trading partners in the Hub. Due to his aspirations of assuming power in Junktown, he is portrayed as the nemesis of the town's mayor, Killian Darkwater. With Killian gone, Gizmo would be able take over the town unimpeded.

Interactions with the player character

The rivalry for power in Junktown between Killian and Gizmo is the main plot point of the Vault Dweller's visit to the town.

After the failure of Kenji's assassination attempt on Killian, Gizmo offers the job to the Vault Dweller if the latter is successful in convincing Gizmo to offer it. If the offer is accepted, Gizmo demands the Dog Tags Killian wears around his neck as proof of the Vault Dweller's success. If this task is completed, Gizmo properly rewards the Vault Dweller and soon begins to completely takeover Junktown.

Alternatively, the Vault Dweller could have had the conversation recorded and presented to Killian as proof of Gizmo's intentions. This would lead to Killian asking the Vault Dweller to aid in arresting Gizmo. Unfortunately, rather than be taken in, Gizmo resists arrest and proceeds to attack Killian, his men and the Vault Dweller.

Behind the scenes

It has been noted that in early designs, the results of dealing with Gizmo and Killian were intended to be less black and white: a victorious Gizmo would turn Junktown into a flourishing trading center, albeit for entirely self-serving reasons, whereas a victorious Killian would gradually become a well-intentioned tyrant, grinding the town slowly into the dust. This original intention never made the final cut, however.

From Teletraan I: The Transformers Wiki

Gizmo is an Autobot from the Generation One continuity family.
Bright light! Bright light!

Gizmo is famous for his, well, gizmos. His best (okay, only) known gizmo is his holomatter projector. He transforms into a little Cybertronic dunebuggy.

He likes to die.

Note: It is unknown whether the two instances of "Gizmo" being a named Autobot are of the same character. As the first was never seen, and both instances are from writer Simon Furman, it's likely —but not definitely proven— the latter instance is a reference to the first, despite the different continuities.

Fiction

Cram it, I'm callin' Slade.

Dreamwave comics continuity

The Decepticons Frenzy and Rumble mention Gizmo as one of the various Autobot casualties while enjoying some downtime, getting to the "G"s in tallying up the known dead. The Age of Wrath issue 3

IDW comics continuity

Gizmo was one of the Autobots in Hot Rod's first command, along with Backbeat, Dealer, and Download, assigned on a mission to the Omega Bunker on Ki-Aleta. Gizmo was responsible for setting up his holomatter projector program to disguise their arrival.

Unfortunately, he also received the dubious honor of becoming the first casualty under Hot Rod's first command when the Omega Bunker's guardians destroyed his holoprogram and killed him to death. He wouldn't be the last. Spotlight #3 Hot Rod
