George Washington (February 22, 1732 - December 14, 1799) was a male human on Earth in the 18th century. Born in what was then the British colony of Virginia, Washington became a military officer, serving first for the British, and then as commander-in-chief of the American forces fighting for independence. Following the American Revolution and the establishment of the United States of America, Washington was elected as the nation's first President.

Washington was honored with an obelisk known as the Washington Monument in the city of Washington, DC. (DS9 novelization: Far Beyond the Stars) He was also honored with a carving of his likeness on Mount Rushmore, a monument which also survived at least until the late 23rd century. (TOS movie: Star Trek V: The Final Frontier).

The 1939 New York World's Fair opened on April 30, 1939, the 150th anniversary of George Washington's inauguration. (DS9 novelization: Far Beyond the Stars)

During his encounter with Doctor Beverly Crusher, terrorist leader Kyril Finn compared himself to George Washington in his struggle to gain independence from the Rutians for the Ansatan people. Crusher rejected the comparison, stating that Washington was a military general who did not target innocent civilians. (TNG episode: "The High Ground").

Washington in The Street We Live On

George Washington (1732-1799) was the Commander in Chief of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War from 1775 to 1783, and later the first President of the United States, an office to which he was twice elected unanimously (unanimous among the Electoral College) and held from 1789 to 1797. In 1787 he presided over the Constitutional Convention that drafted the current United States Constitution. His two-term administration set many policies and traditions that survive today. Washington did not run for a third term, thereby establishing an important precedent that was to serve as an example for the United States and also for other future republics.

Because of his central role in the founding of the United States, Washington is often called the "Father of his Country". Scholars rank him with Abraham Lincoln among the greatest of United States presidents.

Aside from portraits which hang in school classroom's and post offices, the painting Washington Crossing the Delaware is also one of the classic intreprations of the President.
