A gecko was a type of small reptile native to Earth. Geckos are noted for the unique physical structure of their footpads, which enable them to adhere to and move on most surfaces, horizontal and vertical.

While using his experimental mobile emitter to spy on renegade Vorta Luaran, Fabian Stevens gave his hologram the form of a gecko, to enable it to perch on the bulkheads of Luaran's space station. (SCE eBook: Malefictorum)

Runescape

From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

The Gecko is a pet a player may have with level 10 Summoning. Baby geckos can be caught with a box trap at Hunter level 27. When a gecko is caught it will give the player 100 Hunter experience. As a baby, it will only eat flies, beetle bits, and leaves. All of these can be bought from pet shops. As with all pets, if you don't feed your gecko by the time its hunger percentage reaches 100, it will run away and look for food. You may only have 1 gecko at a time (unless you put your other geckos in your house), and will not be able to catch another until you dismiss your current gecko. You can only catch baby geckos.

Geckos come in 4 different colours: orange, blue, red, and green. A gecko can have a dark brown animation.

Location

Geckos come in various colours. Beware, as many players have spent a long time trying to capture adults, not realising they are different to the babies. The map below lists the various colours and locations of geckos, with the listed number corresponding to the number on the map:

1. Colour - Orange. Location - North-east of the Tai Bwo Wannai tree grove, also east of the Nature altar, and directly next to the Shaikahan.

2. Colour - Green. Location - East of the Tai Bwo Wannai tree grove, also on the very north-east coast of Karamja (not on Musa Point, but the bottom right quadrant of Karamja where the Shaikahan is).

3. Colour - Blue. Location - East and West of the small mine north of Shilo Village.

4. Colour - Red. Location - In the middle of the Kharazi Jungle.

Dialogue

At level 20 summoning, geckos may be understood by their owners.

Trivia

  • Interestingly, you cannot feed a baby gecko straight from your inventory.
  • The motion performed by a gecko of lifting its feet is taken from desert lizards. They only have their front right and back left feet in contact with the hot desert sand, until they get too hot, and then the lizard will lift its alternate feet and let the other two cool down.
  • According to the Items Kept on Death interface, a baby gecko is worth 1 gp even though they are untradeable.
  • Geckos have no gender, but this can be decided by the player as it makes no difference whatsoever. This is true among most, if not every pet.
  • Before the release of alternate colour pets, Red Gecko head icons were placed in the Hunter Menu.
  • The rarity of Geckos is considered to go from Green - Orange - Blue - Red. This is due to the locations becoming increasingly difficult to reach and the sparsity of the population of latter colours.
  • In the gecko's talking animation it can be seen licking its eye just as some lizards do. This is because geckos have no eyelids and therefore need to lick their eyes to keep them wet, but Jagex have incorrectly given geckos eyelids.
