Walkthrough

To start the quest, go to the kitchen in the Varrock palace, exit through the kitchen's eastern door, and go south through the trellis into a fenced garden, where Queen Ellamaria is. Speak to her about the untidy garden, and she will hand over a list of the plants she needs.

Enchanting the ring

With the ring of charos obtained from Creature of Fenkenstrain quest, head for Draynor Village and talk to the Wise Old Man. He will tell a story about Queen Ellamaria before she was married to King Roald and the history of Charos and the origin of his ring. The Wise Old Man tells you he will activate the power in the ring if you can correctly answer a few questions to see whether you are worthy of owning an activated ring.

The answers to the questions are as follows:

  1.  Show them a range of colours so that they can come to a compromise.
  2.  Take his generous gift even though you have no need for it.
  3.  It's absolutely, unquestionably the most interesting thing I've ever done!
  4.  Put on the silly helmet and jump into the cannon.
  5.  I am, prepare to meet your doom PKMaster0036!
  6.  Ask me nicely and I might consider it.
  7.  No, especially not that wise old man, who doesn't look at all suspicious.

(Note: There seems to be some room for error since alternate responses have worked for some people on questions 4, 5, 6, and 7.)

After answering the questions correctly, the Wise Old Man will enchant the ring of charos. Now, when wearing the ring of charos (a), you will be able to persuade the NPCs on the Queen's list by using dialogue including the word Charm in parentheses. (Note: After the Wise Old Man enchants your ring, any banked spares you may have picked up during Creature Of Fenkenstrain will disappear.)

(After he enchants the ring, you can talk to the Wise Old Man again and say "(Charm) I think you wanted to give me a thousand coins..." He is too wise, however, for the ring to work on him.)

Select the (Charm) dialogue option to persuade the farmers.

Obtaining the seeds

Head to the NPCs the Queen asked you to find. You can visit the NPCs in any order. As you wait for your plants to grow for each of the NPCs, you can plant the seeds on your list you have already obtained in the Queen's garden. When your crops are finished growing, you will receive a message saying perhaps you should check on those crops. If you bind an Amulet of Farming to a patch, it will also notify you when it is fully grown and ready to be harvested.

Note: The Queen's garden does not have a Tool Leprechaun, but one is at the tree patch in the castle courtyard. You do not need a watering can for any of the plants.

Note: The NPCs can be done in any order, but the most convenient order is as follows:

Dantaera, Catherby

Items needed for this section: Secateurs or magic secateurs, plant pot, Gardening trowel, Spade, a rake, and a watering can.

This step is recommended first because it takes a while for the White tree sapling to grow.

Go to the Catherby farming patch, and talk to Dantaera. Select the charm options whenever possible, and Dantaera will let you cut a branch from the White Tree, which is on the top of Ice Mountain, near the Oracle.

After talking to Dantaera, go to the bank and grab a filled plant pot, a pair of secateurs, a watering can with water, and a gardening trowel. Travel to the top of Ice Mountain, and find the White Tree. Use the pair of secateurs on the tree, and you will get a white tree shoot. Use the shoot with the plant pot with soil, and finally, water the plant with your watering can. The potted plant can then be left either in your inventory or in your bank. After a while, the branch will grow into a sapling and will be ready to be planted in the specified tree patch in Queen Ellamaria's garden. Plant the white tree sapling as soon as you get it, because it takes a while to grow into a tree.

Brother Althric, Monastery

Items needed for this section: Ring of charos (a) equipped and a fishing rod or fly fishing rod.

Note: The steps mentioned in this part should be followed strictly.

For the rose seeds, go to the garden at the north side of the Monastery, with the ring of charos (a) equipped. Try to take the rose seeds, and Brother Althric will stop you. When you select the (Charm) dialogue option, he will sense you are using an unnatual power and say you are "concealing something of great evil." He suggests you either throw the "dark talisman" down the well in Edgeville or simply destroy it. Do not throw away or destroy the ring before being told by Althric to do so.

Head east to Edgeville, and throw the ring down the local well, at the north-east corner of Evil Dave's house. If you instead destroy it, you will have to go to Fenkenstrain's Castle or Harmony Island and pickpocket Dr. Fenkenstrain to recover the ring.

With the ring thrown away or destroyed, return to the Monastery and attempt to take the seeds (from the rosebushes) again. This time Althric will be pleased you have "taken the road back towards the light" and will allow you to take the rose seeds: red rose seeds, pink rose seeds, and white rose seeds.

To retrieve your ring, get a fishing rod or fly fishing rod (the oily fishing rod does not work), and use it on the well in Edgeville. It might take several tries, but you will eventually get it back. If you destroyed the ring, you have the chance to get it back from Fenkenstrain's Castle before speaking to Lyra.

Lyra, Port Phasmatys

Items needed for this section: Ring of charos (a) equipped, three onion seeds, a bucket of compost/super compost, a rake, a seed dibber, a watering can, and an Ectophial (optional). It's also recommended to bring some plant cure or about 100 coins, if you do not already have Marigolds planted at the flower patch.

Go to the undead farm between Port Phasmatys and the Fenkenstrain's Castle. Speak to Lyra at the allotments, selecting the (Charm) option until she requests that you grow some onions. Then, agree to her offer without using the (Charm) option.

Rake an allotment and pour the bucket of compost or super compost. Plant some onion seeds in the allotment, water the plantation every turn, and cure disease if necessary. Note that if you have fully grown Marigolds planted in the nearby flower patch, you do not need to worry about the onions becoming diseased. When the onions are fully grown, speak to Lyra again. She will give you three yellow orchid seeds and three pink orchid seeds. You will then need to plant them with compost/super compost in the plantpots that are in Queen Ellamaria's garden.

Kragen, between Hemenster and Ardougne

Items needed for this section: Ring of charos (a) equipped, three cabbage seeds, a bucket of compost / super compost, a rake, a seed dibber, and a watering can. It's also recommended to bring some plant cure or about 100 coins, if you do not already have some Rosemary planted in the nearby flower patch.

Go to the farm just north of East Ardougne. Speak to Kragen at the allotments, selecting the (Charm) option until he requests that you grow some cabbages. Then, agree to his offer without using the (Charm) option.

Rake an allotment, and pour in the bucket of compost or super compost. Plant some cabbages in the allotment, water the plants every turn, and cure disease if necessary. Note that if you have fully grown Rosemary planted in the nearby flower patch, you do not need to worry about the cabbages becoming diseased. When the cabbages are fully grown, speak to Kragen again to receive four snowdrop seeds.

Elstan, south-east of Falador

Items needed for this section: Ring of charos (a) equipped, marigold seed, a bucket of compost/super compost, a rake, a seed dibber, plant cure, a spade and a watering can.

Go to the allotments between Falador and Draynor Village, and talk to the gardener Elstan. Ask about Delphinium seeds. Select the (Charm) option, and he will ask you to plant some marigold. Charm him until the actual request, when you should not use the charm option.

Plant a marigold seed in the nearby flower patch, and grow it. In exchange for the marigold, Elstan will hand over the delphinium seeds. If you give him an ordinary marigold you got before the quest, he will tell you he hasn't seen you grow it and you won't get the seeds. Also, if you grow the marigold before talking to him, he will say that he did not see it growing and you must do it again.

Bernald, Burthorpe

Items needed for this section: Ring of charos (a) equipped, Rune essence (pure essence will also work), two plant cure potions, a hammer or a chisel, and a pestle and mortar.

Travel to the Toad and Chicken bar in Burthorpe, and enter the garden beside it. Talk to Bernald, selecting the (Charm) options when necessary. He will tell you that his vines are dying and needs a cure. Use one plant cure on the diseased grapevines, but it won't work. Talk to Bernald again, and he will instruct you to find Alain at Taverley.

Go to the tree patch at Taverley (just south of the gate dividing the P2P-only area and the F2P area), and speak to Alain about strong plant cures. Do not select the charm option with him. He will provide a method of adding some rune essence dust into the plant cure to enhance its power.

Use a hammer or chisel on a rune essence or pure essence to crush the stone into rune shards, and then use the pestle and mortar on the shards to make some rune dust. Use the dust with the remaining plant cure potion to get the strong plant cure. Bring the potion back to Burthorpe, and use it on the diseased vines. The grapevines will now be cured.

Talk to Bernald, and he will give you some Burthorpe vine seeds.

Gardening

Gardening should be done as you complete each of the different tasks since they take some time to grow, however, if you haven't done your planting already, grab a rake, a spade, a seed dibber, and two buckets of compost or super compost, as well as all the seeds and saplings obtained from earlier parts.

Pour one bucket of compost/super compost in each stone pot. Use the rake to wipe out the weeds in all farming patches, and plant the seeds and white-tree sapling where they should be placed.

Since the Queen has treated all the soil in the garden patches, no watering or composting is needed.

Remember that you must wait for all of the plants to grow, so it is advised to get the statues last.

Getting the statues

A player pushing around a statue.

After planting everything, talk to Queen Ellamaria and ask about getting the statues. She provides a trolley with which to push or pull the statues.

When there is a statue on the trolley, you can choose to "push" or "pull" the trolley, causing the trolley to move 1 square away or toward you, respectively. The option "big push" allows the trolley to move several squares away from you.

Teleports are recommended to get to the statues' original places.

Statue of a former King, Lumbridge

Walk or teleport to Lumbridge, and then walk out of the castle gate. Examine both statues just outside the gate, and use the trolley on the one described as the statue of a "former King" (it should be the one on the south side).

Push or pull the trolley across the bridge directly outside and to the east of the castle. Once the trolley is on the other side of the River Lum the scene will immediately change to the north backyard of Varrock palace. Push or pull the trolley to the east, and then south, into the Queen's garden. Don't take your time with this: If you chat along the way and otherwise take too long, you will receive a message saying, "The guards have recaptured the statue of the king, and placed it back in Lumbridge."

Move the statue in front of the slot on the eastern wall. When the trolley is pushed beside the spot, use the "place" option to place the statue, and the trolley will return to your inventory automatically.

The statues will occasionally get stuck in the drain on the castle wall near the trellis.

Statue of Saradomin, Falador

Walk or teleport to Falador. The statue is in the main square just south of the north gate. The Falador Teleport brings you right next to the statue. Use the trolley on the statue, and a cutscene will play, showing two guards called Bob and Billy (guard) at the north gate being killed by PKMaster0036 while you try to push the statue onto the trolley.

After the cutscene, move the trolley out of Falador as soon as possible. If you take too long, the guards will discover the statue has been stolen (you will get a message saying, "The guards have recaptured the statue of Saradomin, and placed it back in Falador") and you'll have to start over.

Once the trolley is out of Falador the scene will immediately change to the north backyard of Varrock palace. Again, push or pull the trolley to the east, and then south, into the Queen's garden. Place the statue in the central empty plinth.

Conclusion

After all patches are fully grown and the statues are in place, talk to the Queen and she will ask you to get King Roald. Go to the King and talk to him, selecting the (Charm) options whenever possible. Have him follow you into the garden.

After a funny cut scene, the quest will end and the Queen will reward you.

Trivia

The completed garden.
  • During the Burthorpe vine part of the quest, if you charm Alain too much, Alain will exclaim that you are trying to brainwash him, to which you will respond to by saying "It only works on the weak minded," a quote from Star Wars. He then says "It is you who are weak minded, <name>. If you use the ring too much, it could lead to your downfall." This is an obvious reference to J. R. R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings when Gandalf warns Frodo against using the One Ring.
  • The reference to the dying white tree at the top of the mountain may be a reference to the White Tree found in J. R. R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
  • Throwing the ring into the well might also be a reference to The Lord of the Rings.
  • During the scene with the two guards of Falador when PKMaster0036 approaches them, Bob tells Billy to stay steady because he is a guard of Falador. This is in reference to The Lord of the Rings, when Gandalf tells the soldiers of Gondor to stay steady because they are soldiers of Gondor, when the enemy are about to break down their gate.
  • In the cutscene near the end of the quest, the Queen slaps the King and hits a "1".
  • The Queen calls her husband Rollie.
  • The King calls his wife pumpkin.
  • You do not get any Farming experience from planting any seeds in the Queen's garden; however, you do get experience from weeding the patches.
  • When the Queen asks you to help, one of your choices to answer her that you'd rather throw yourself off of a pier, and when you go to the Wise Old Man, he says you'd be better off throwing yourself off of a pier.
  • After the quest is over, the statues that you took are replaced by plinths.
  • One of the answers for the 4th question the Wise Old Man asks you is "Just put on the silly helmet and jump into the cannon," this is a reference to the quest Between a Rock..., where you have to do just that. (The question itself is also a reference to the same quest)
  • The guards during the scene when you take the statue from Falador are named Billy, a guard of Falador, and Bob, another guard of Falador.
  • The guards do emotes with their swords and shields, but that is unavailable to players.
  • The Destroy option was introduced with this quest.
  • During the diplomacy test, the question about goblins is a reference to Goblin Diplomacy.
  • When you're done planting cabbages for Kragen, if you ask him to look after them, he will respond with: 'I can't believe you're asking me to do that! I asked you to grow some cabbages for me, not for me to look after them for you! No, I won't look after them!'
  • If you use the trolley on the statue of the queen in Lumbridge your character will say "I'm supposed to be getting a statue of a KING from Lumbridge. I'm no expert, but that looks like a QUEEN to me."
