Frederick Sanguine was a former soldier who developed an unhealthy appreciation for the art of war. Raised in the latter years of the Cold War era, Sanguine learned about various brainwashing techniques conducted by American military forces. He acquired several devices and secured himself a hidden Cold War bunker buried one mile beneath the island of Manhattan in New York City. With a private army under his command, and a new objective in mind, Sanguine adopted the costumed alias of Commander Blud.
Commander Blood learned that one of New York’s transitory super-heroes, the time-lost Karate Kid, possessed keen knowledge of the future. He instructed his soldiers to strike during a Bicentenniel parade, wherein they abducted Karate Kid’s friend, Iris Jacobs.
The Karate Kid tracked Iris to Blud’s underground bunker, but fell into a trap. Blud wanted Karate Kid to tell him comprehensive details concerning Earth's next World War. He cared little for the politics involved in such a future endeavor, but merely wanted to be present so that he could immerse himself in the glory of battle. Karate Kid refused to aid him, and the two began fighting. Initially Blud maintained the upper hand over Kid, but he inadvertently drove the hero into a berserker frenzy. Ultimately, Commander Blud was defeated.
