A Galaxy-class explorer, in service in the 24th century.

The term explorer, or exploration cruiser, is a starship classification that is applied to multi-purpose starships that are equipped to perform a variety of duties at the same time. Explorers are similar to heavy cruisers, as they are equipped with strong defenses, and are designed to perform long-duration and long-range missions. During wars, explorers are used as flagships for battle groups and fleets of ships. Explorers are the largest ships in Starfleet. The term explorer was synonymous for battleship in more militant fleets or in alternate timelines. A variant of the explorer classification was the light explorer. (ST reference: Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual, ST roleplay module: Narrator's Guide, ST roleplay module: Starships)

Explorer is a Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, J.E. Sawyer's Fallout Role-Playing Game and Fallout Tactics Perk.

Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics

The mark of the Explorer is to search out new and interesting locations. With this Perk, you have a greater chance of finding special places and people in random encounters.

Fallout 3

When you choose the Explorer perk, every location in the world is revealed on your map.

  • It should be noted that this doesn't allow you to fast travel to any of the locations it reveals, and doesn't add them to your Geomapper Module for the Geomapping with Reilly quest.
  • The Broken Steel Add-on though makes this perk much more useful as the levels now go to 30. You can now take Explorer without sacrificing any of the level 20 perks.
  • This perk may be a good idea to help with the One-Man Scouting Party achievement.
  • The collectors edition guide has this perk as allowing you to fast travel to all the locations; the reason for this error could be the same as why Barkskin is also wrong in the guide.
  • It should be noted that the enlisting of this perk will reveal the additional locations provided by add-ons such as The Pitt, Broken Steel or Point Lookout.

Locations added by add-ons or user-made modifications

  • If the player gains this perk after activating the modification or add-on, the locations will be revealed to the player.
  • If the player gains this perk before activating the modification or add-on, the locations will not be revealed to the player.

For other meanings of "Explorer", see Explorer (disambiguation).

Explorer is one of the types of starships as classified by Starfleet. Explorers are extremely verstile vessels by design and are equipped for a wide variety of tactical, scientific, and diplomatic missions. They are among the largest and often the most heavily armed vessels utilised by Starfleet. (LUG RPG: Spacedock: The Advanced Starship and Construction Manual)

Perhaps the best-known example of an explorer is the Galaxy class USS Enterprise-D, which was in service from 2363 until 2371.
