Evgeni Malkin (in Russian: Евгений Малкин) (b. July 31st 1986 in Magnitogorsk, Russia, U.S.S.R.) is a professional centre who plays in the National Hockey League for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

After having been named rookie of the year in the Russian Superleague with the Metallurg Magnitogorsk, Malkin was drafted to the NHL second overall of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft (right after Alexander Ovechkin by the Penguins. He spent the 2004-05 season with Magnitogorsk during the 2004-05 lock-out; he choose to play the 2005-06 season there as well. He had signed a contract with the club for the 2006-07 season as well, but he choose to take the opportunity given to him during a tournament in Finland to fly away to North America.

Malkin injured himself during the pre-season by colliding with his teammate John LeClair in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers. It delayed his NHL debuts to October 18th. The wait was well worth the show Malkin was to give, however. He scored his first NHL goal in his first game against the New Jersey Devils. He scored again at his next two games, becoming the first rookie since Jan Caloun in 1995 to score at his first 3 games in the league. He scored again at his fourth game, repeating the feat Steven King did in 1992, and carried on his scoring streak to his fifth and sixth game, becoming the first player since the initial season of the league to score a goal at each of his six first games (Joe Malone, Newsy Lalonde and Cy Dennedy had done the feat back then, Malone going as far as scoring in his 14 first games).

His brother Denis and father Vladimir also played professionally with Metallurg.
