In starship classification, an escort is designated as being a small starship which is generally given a protection role, moving with less maneuverable ships or vessels with lighter armament. Escorts can further be classified as fast escorts or heavy escorts. Light escorts are also called corvettes.

In 2371, the Defiant-class was officially designated as being an escort, although its use was thought to be a euphemism, as the Defiant-class was described as being one of the most powerful warships in the Alpha Quadrant. (DS9 novelization: The Search; DS9 episode: "Defiant")

(Redirected to Cherry's Freedom article)

From The Vault

Cherry's Freedom
location: Dukov's Place
end location: Rivet City
given by: Cherry
reward: Karma
related: You Gotta Shoot 'Em in the Head

Cherry's Freedom is an unmarked Fallout 3 quest.

If you talk to Cherry, one of Dukov's escorts at Dukov's Place, she will ask you to escort her to Rivet City. You can just leave Dukov's and use fast travel to take her directly there. The reward is a Karma boost. Also, you will be able to find Cherry wandering around Rivet City after the quest.

This quest is automatically aborted after 5 game-days. You may take her to a house, in either Megaton or Tenpenny Tower, and leave her there for five days. Upon which the next time you visit she will tell you that your place wasn't part of the plan and she is going back to Dukov's. You cannot restart this quest ever after.

You can use this escort as incentive for her to steal Dukov's key for You Gotta Shoot 'Em in the Head.

Notes

  • It is possible to equip Cherry with armor and weapons by using the reverse-pickpocketing method BEFORE convincing her to steal the key from Dukov. Cherry has Power Armor training and can be given any weapon, however, when confronted with an enemy she merely cowers and yells for help and will never fight making her a useless follower.
  • If the player offers to take her to Rivet City, but later in the conversation balks, the dialogue options will be lost and the player will be unable to convince Cherry to join them later.
  • It is also possible to enslave Cherry, using the Mesmetron.
  • If you kill Dukov after having already escorted Cherry earlier, she will then show up as a hostile fleeing target in Rivet City and any companion you have in your party will kill her.
  • If you decide to escort Cherry to Rivet City by foot, and you get into a confrontation, such as Super Mutants or Centaurs; it is possible that she will run away, and not be found back at Dukov's place, it is unconfirmed as to whether she runs to Rivet City herself, or she just vanishes.
  • Fast traveling seems to get Cherry there without incident, if you have already visited Rivet City.
  • If you steal from Dukov after Cherry has agreed to be escorted (whether in front of her or not) she will immediately start fleeing and you will not be able to complete the quest.
  • Once you successfully escort Cherry to Rivet City, she is prone to taking long walks in the outlying countryside and may be found by the player dead on the side of the road after awhile.
  • There is a neutral solution to Cherry's freedom, you can escort her to Rivet City, and while she is still on the bridge, mez her with the mesmetron, tag her and send her to Paradise Falls. This way yields no karma change and you get 250 caps. Rivet City guards will not become hostile as long as she does not begin to climb the stairs to the bridge.

Bugs

  • After successfully passing the speech check to get her to agree to steal Dukov's key and relocate to Rivet City, Cherry's scripted lines -- "Okay. Rivet City has got to be better than this. I have my hands in his pants all the time. He probably won't even notice it's gone" -- are not actually spoken. (Xbox 360, PS3 & PC)

The Defiant-class escort

An escort is a small, limited-role starship built to serve as escorts for transports, cargo convoys and other larger vessels. Escorts usual are relatively well armed and fast so to act as a deterrent against threats. (LUG RPG: Spacedock: The Advanced Starship and Construction Manual)

The Cardassians tended to lump escorts and scouts together as they were very similar in capabilities. (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 2: Starships of the Cardassian Union)

Klingons preferred the heavier armed heavy escort and destroyer escort over standard escorts as they felt they were not equipped with enough weapons. (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 3: Ships of the Klingon Empire)

The Romulan Bird-of-Prey and Swift Bird-of-Prey were their escort equivalents. (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 5: Starships of the Romulan Star Empire)

Despite its euphemistic name, the Defiant class was the result of Starfleet's first attempt to create a true warship-type vessel. In canon, Starfleet escorts were originally developed to counter the Borg. (DS9: "The Search, Part I")

Traveller

Up to date as of February 05, 2010

From Traveller Wiki - Science-Fiction Adventure in the Far future

Escorts are vessels intended to protect and assist larger vessels. They are capable of independent action, but are usually assigned to support Battleships and Cruisers.

The mainstay of the escort fleet is the ED series.

These escort destroyers are typical of Imperial needs. The ED-13, derived from the ED-12, was relatively unsuccessful, and the naval architects returned to the ED-12 for inspiration for the later ED-14.

The EF-12 served as the design basis for two divergent ship types: the escort fleet (and later escort strike designs) and the escort missile EM-13/-15.
