Eris logo

Eris is a shoe manufacturing company featured in Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto IV.

Contents

Description

The company is a parody of Nike, as the company name is taken from a Greek goddess, however Eris represents strife whereas Nike represents victory. There are radio advertisements for one Eris product in GTA San Andreas, called Pump-Up shoes. Apparently, they are shoes that inflate to improve athletes performance, however are never bought by actual athletes.

Company radio advertisements in GTA III explain the "benefits" of working for the company. The company employee, Joey, a child who "sewed his hands together", may be nodded towards the sparked conflicts/strikes between Nike and people against child labor who found out Nike's soccer balls were made by children in the Middle East. In addition to this, one of the founders and board members of Eris, Pete Vassal was involved in a steroid scandal in 2008 bringing even more controversy on the company.

Inaccessible Eris shops can be found throughout Liberty City and San Andreas, although the player can buy Eris T-shirts at any Binco Store available in San Andreas.

For the dwarf planet of the same name, see Eris (planet).

Eris was a Vorta in service to the Dominion.

Eris was one of the few Vorta to possess psionic powers. She was trained to be a field agent and had extensive training, including combat training with the use of energy pistols and the rhutala fighting style. (The Dominion War Sourcebook: The Fires of Armageddon)

In 2370, Eris attempted to infiltrate Deep Space 9 by pretending to be fleeing from the Jem'Hadar. She claimed to be from the planet Kurill Prime, which had recently been conquered by the Dominion. Her ruse was discovered after she had escaped with Benjamin Sisko, Quark and the crew of Deep Space 9 back to the Alpha Quadrant. When they attempted to apprehend her she was transported away. (DS9: "The Jem'Hadar")

"What's that little planet in the corner?"
"That's Eris. The farthest known planet from the Solar System's sun.
"
—Grievous and Dooku, looking at a map of the solar system.

Eris was the farthest known planet from the Solar System's sun and the largest dwarf planet (the other dwarf is Pluto). It was only accessible through the device created in Project G.A.L.A.X.Y. General Grievous himself took a great interest in this planet.

History

The Eris Incident

"Help anyone! This is Eris Colo-"
"What happened captain?"
"We've lost all contact with Eris Colony.
"
—Grievous and a Nemoidian captain, receiving Eris' final transmission.

About a month after Eris was colonized Grievous received a short distress message from Eris, the only indication that there was any trouble on the planet. Grievous and his elite unit arrived on the planet to discover sickly Yuuzhan Vong-like creatures (suggesting that the Yuuzhan Vong may have come from the Solar System). The creatures had rampaged through the base killing almost all personnel. Grievous and his troops tried to contain the situation but were overwhelmed and forced to retreat. They made it back to their transport and made an emergency take-off from the planet. The base was abandoned and forgotten.
