Echuu Shen-Jon was a Jedi Master in the waning years of the Galactic Republic until its fall, and served as a Jedi General in the Clone Wars. During the war, he went into hiding and eventually re-emerged to fight for the Rebel Alliance.

A former Padawan of Mace Windu, Echuu took a Padawan of his own, Stam Reath, before the outbreak of the Clone Wars. The master and his apprentice fought as part of Windu's Jedi task force at the Battle of Geonosis, where they were assigned with the task of destroying several Trade Federation battleship cores. They succeeded, and were then ordered to pursue Count Dooku as he attempted to reach his hangar. Along the way they were intercepted by the Confederacy of Independent Systems General Sev'rance Tann, who quickly slew Echuu's Padawan.[2]
After the battle, Echuu slipped into depression. When Tann reappeared from the shadows, taking Sarapin in a shocking movement with the help of stolen Decimator technology, the Jedi Council hurriedly assigned a new Padawan to Echuu—Naat Reath, Stam's sister.[2]
Together, Echuu and Naat led a series of successful campaigns against Tann and quickly took back Sarapin. Yet at the same time both fell deeper into the dark side of the Force, each wanting revenge for Stam's death. Echuu tracked Tann across the galaxy to Krant, but along the way, Naat was captured by Tann. Echuu did not heed the warnings of Master Windu as he slipped into the dark side and went after Tann.[2]
Finally, Echuu confronted Tann alone in the heart of a CIS fortress on Krant. He bested her using the dark side of the Force, taking revenge for Stam. He told his Padawan that he could no longer return to the Jedi Order until he had meditated on his crimes against the Jedi Code. He told Naat that she would make a fine Jedi Knight one day, and bade her return to the Jedi Council. This she did, but she never revealed Echuu's location.[2]
Echuu survived in hiding through the Galactic Empire's Great Jedi Purge. He finally re-emerged when Princess Leia Organa crash-landed on the world of Krant, shortly after the Battle of Yavin. Like Obi-Wan Kenobi, it is probable he was waiting for a sign foretold by the Force. Perhaps Shen-Jon himself had foreseen that the Princess would arrive on the planet someday, but no one can ever be certain. There he aided her in her struggle against the Empire, defending the cities of Krant.[1]
Later, when Organa met with Utric Sandov, Echuu was surprised to hear that the Imperials had found the ancient Jedi artifact Vor'Na'Tu. He accompanied her to Geddes and together they obtained the artifact, but upon returning to their shuttle they found Darth Vader awaiting their arrival.[1] Vader demanded that they hand over the relic to him, but Echuu refused to surrender and destroyed it instead. He dueled the Dark Lord, but his skills were no match for the Sith Lord's and eventually Echuu Shen-Jon was killed. In dueling Vader, he gave Princess Leia enough time to escape.[3]
Years later, Echuu's spirit warned the Princess and Luke Skywalker about the Vor'Na'Tu and urged them to return to Geddes (renamed Hanoon) to secure the relic once and for all. He was never known to contact them again.[1]
Echuu Shen-Jon was voiced by Roger Jackson.
Echuu's appearance and mannerisms may be a tribute to one of George Lucas's original visions for Obi-Wan Kenobi; one of the first actors he chose for the role was veteran Japanese actor Toshirô Mifune.
Echuu appeared first in the Rebel campaign of Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds. His backstory is revealed in the expansion pack Clone Campaigns.
During the Clone Wars, Echuu had a green lightsaber. However, by the time of Leia Organa's visit, it had changed to blue. This is most likely because the model for him as an older man was taken from that of the game's Jedi Master class, which carries a blue lightsaber.
