Prelude

In 5,000 BBY, a group of Sith crash-landed on Kesh while attempting to deliver a shipment of Lignan crystals to Sith Lord Naga Sadow. After the crash, the survivors fled from their starship the Omen, which teetered on the edge of a cliff in the Takara Mountains on the planet Kesh. The captain of the starship, Yaru Korsin, agreed to return to the crash site to turn on the transmitter and broadcast for rescue. However, he found that his half-brother, Devore Korsin, was already there. Devore, who had just taken a large amount of the spice known as Red Rage, insisted that all hope was lost, and that if they ever left they would be killed. Yaru, however, believed that Sadow would blame Saes Rrogon, the commander of the Harbinger, the ship which had accompanied the Omen during their mission to deliver the Lignan crystals to Sadow. Yaru then revealed that he knew that Devore had asked Sadow if he could lead the mission, rather than Yaru, and that Sadow had denied his request.

The duel

Enraged, Devore activated his lightsaber and created a whirlwind in the Force, throwing debris from the crash at his half-brother. Korsin used the Force to protect himself from the debris and flung Devore from his perch aboard the command chair of the Omen, throwing him out through the viewport in hopes of preventing the destruction of his ship. As Korsin climbed through the viewport, he saw one of the native Keshiri, Adari Vaal, flying on an uvak above the cliff. Devore took advantage of this distraction to throw Yaru against the Omen, smashing him into the starship's frame. Devore then proclaimed himself "Commander Korsin" and began hammering down on Yaru with his lightsaber. Yaru blocked his half-brother's wild attacks, pushed backwards along the side of the ship. Yaru attempted to fire a torpedo by activating the control box from the outside, but the door cycle was trapped against the ground. The ship lurched forward, pushing Devore toward the edge of the cliff in front of it and burying him under the rubble. Devore dropped his lightsaber over the edge of the cliff, and Yaru lifted his half-brother to his feet. Realizing that Devore could survive his injuries, Yaru considered allowing him to live. However, he knew that his half-brother's desire for his command would not be appeased, so he dropped Devore over the edge of the cliff, killing him.

Aftermath

Yaru Korsin then returned to the survivors of the crash, and they soon made contact with Vaal, the Keshiri that he had seen during his duel. With the help of Vaal, the Sith convinced the rest of the Keshiri that they were their gods, the Skyborn. Yaru was then proclaimed the Grand Lord by one of the Keshiri religious leaders, Izri Dazh, giving Korsin rule over all of the Sith and Keshiri on Kesh.
