Dragon 2h sword: Misc

Up to date as of February 07, 2010

From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

The Dragon two-handed sword is the second strongest two-handed sword available, succeeded only by the various types of Godswords, and the sixth strongest non-degradable weapon, surpassed only by the Barrelchest Anchor, the Godswords and Balmung. It can only be wielded by members who have at least 60 Attack. It is dropped by the Chaos Elemental and the Kalphite Queen.

The Dragon two-handed sword has a special attack, Powerstab, which can hit up to 22 on all enemies in the squares around the player, but only in a multicombat area. This makes the special attack effective in combat situations with multiple opponents, such as the Pest Control minigame or the Castle Wars minigame. Powerstab can hit just as high/often as the normal attack. However, it uses 60% of a player's special attack energy, so it cannot be done in rapid succession. Players typically prefer to buy an Abyssal whip or Saradomin sword rather than the Dragon two-handed sword. Against players, the weapon's maximum hit is 51 (if using PvP armour and all the best secondary equipment, potions, prayers, etc.), or 49 with Void equipment and the other aforementioned items.

With the release of Item Lending, the Dragon two-handed sword, like the Godsword, is in somewhat popular demand for inexperienced players wishing to see their maximum hit and/or deciding if it is something they wish to buy. This weapon is mostly seen borrowed/lent near the Pest Control landers.

As with all Dragon equipment (except the Dragon platebody and the Dragon sq shield), this item cannot be made using the Smithing skill. However, the Dragon two-handed sword is one of the few Dragon weapons that do not require the completion of a quest. Because of this and its large strength/slash bonus, it is popular for bounty (+1) and for training in dense areas.

Recently, in early May 2009, the price of the Dragon two-handed sword crashed. It fell from around one million coins to around 600,000 coins. After a slight price recovery around 19 May 2009, the sword continued to fall in price and, in the crash, people were frantically selling them in junk trades. The price has since made a significant recovery.

The old inventory sprite
  • Prior to its release, the Dragon two-handed sword was shown in the old RuneScape banner. During the time it was shown, there was a Dragon pickaxe next to the gold ore rock in the banner as well. However, after the release of the sword, it was removed from the banner.
  • Before the giants received a graphical update, Fire giants appeared to be wielding Dragon two-handed swords. This nuance was brought up in an edition of Postbag from the Hedge.
  • The Dragon two-handed sword was graphically updated and now resembles a Dragon longsword. This has caused a lot of outrage from many players who bought a Dragon two-handed sword before the update. Also, the sword is held in a strange way when players run. It is unknown if this is a glitch. Many players disliked the new Dragon two-handed sword's new appearance and sold their swords after the update.
  • Strangely, in the Grand Exchange database, the image of the inventory and the model are not up to date.
