A detailed image of the Draconic visage.

The Draconic Visage is a very rare drop from iron, steel, black  and mithril dragons, as well as Skeletal Wyverns, and the King Black Dragon.

A player with level 90 Smithing is able to combine an Anti-dragon shield with the visage to create the Dragonfire shield, granting 2,000 Smithing experience. Alternatively, players may use the Assist System to forge the shield, which is highly recommended. In order to do this, the visage needs to be taken to an anvil along with an Anti-dragon shield and a hammer. Another method of smithing the Dragonfire shield is by paying Oziach, the smith of Dragon Slayer, the sum of 1.25 million (1,250,000) coins to join the shield's components together.

The Draconic visage is a "bonus" drop. This means that it is included in a dragon's main drop, and it is never the main drop itself, meaning it can be dropped as well as another item, such as the Dragon platelegs. In a Knowledge Base update [1] on February 1, 2010, Jagex stated that the Ring of Wealth affects only the rare drop table common to many monsters (drops from this table include crystal key halves, dragon shield left half, etc.) and that the Draconic Visage is not a part of this table.

Trivia

  • Players do not have to complete Dragon Slayer for the visage drop. It is a widespread rumour and has been proven that a pure can also obtain one.
  • It has been widespread rumour that a player must talk to Oziach and show him an anti-dragon shield before being able to receive a draconic visage drop; however, it has since been proven that a player can obtain visages without doing this.
  • Even though it has been proven that a draconic visage can be obtained without talking to Oziach, there is a rumour that talking to him changed the drop ratio for a visage. Jagex has also confirmed that this is not true.
  • The price of the Dragonfire shield dropped back in late May 2009. The price dropped even more after the PvP updates. However, the Draconic visage remained stable. This discouraged people from getting a Dragonfire shield since the visage was currently more expensive. Recently, the price of the Dragonfire shield has doubled since the price drop in May 2009 making the Draconic visage a much more valuable drop.
  • There is a on going disscusion if the ring of wealth helps in getting a Draconic visage drop. In the recent "Ring of wealth guide" update it says that the Draconic visage in not included in the "rare drop table".
