He has performed in three different media for Doctor Who. Undoubtedly most associated with the character of the Master, he played two different incarnations of that Time Lord. Derek Jacobi (b. 1938) is an acclaimed British actor and stage director who played Daedalus in The StoryTeller: Greek Myths episode "Daedalus and Icarus." He also appeared in two projects with digital effects by the Creature Shop: Jason and the Argonauts (as Phineas) and Gosford Park (as Probert).
Jacobi starred in the title role of the Masterpiece Theater series I, Claudius and as Professor Yana on BBC series Doctor Who. His film credits include The Day of the Jackal, Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet, Gladiator, and Underworld: Evolution. Jacobi was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1994, and is only the second actor, after Laurence Oliver, to hold a knighthood from both England and Denmark.
