David was Libby's husband. Libby said that he succumbed to an unspecified illness and died. She added that David was an avid boating fan, and that he named his yacht, Elizabeth, after her.

He wanted to sail to the Mediterranean, according to Libby, but died just a month before Libby met Desmond.

Producers' commentary

• In an interview with Buddy.tv, the executive writers and producers confirm that this David was not also Hurley's imaginary friend (or whoever inspired him):

• David's death is what caused Libby to be in the mental institution. ^[1]
