David Calvin Gardner (born August 23, 1952) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey centre who played 350 National Hockey League (NHL) games for the Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, California Golden Seals, Cleveland Barons and Philadelphia Flyers. Gardner is the son of former NHLer Cal Gardner, and elder brother of Paul Gardner.

Playing career

Gardner was drafted eighth overall by Montreal in the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft from the Toronto Marlboros after having won the Red Tilson Trophy as the Ontario Hockey League's Most Outstanding Player.

He could not catch on with the talent-laden Canadiens so he was traded to the St. Louis Blues where he also did not make it. Finally he became a regular with the California Seals and the Cleveland Barons.

Gardner left the NHL in 1979-80, having played in 350 games and scored 75 goals and 115 assists. He then moved to Switzerland wher he played until his retirement in 1985.
