Cid: Oh, shut up and help me remodel the Crystarium System page!
Please expand this article into a full one. This can be done by Explaining Major and Minor Roles and add a table listing Major/Minor roles for each character. Summarize the Crystarium Grid for each character, possibly leading to individual pages for each Crystal Grid or covering them on their respective character pages. This request can be discussed on the associated discussion page.
Relm: I couldn't miss the chance to practice my drawing!
This article is in need of a few pictures. Perhaps you can help by uploading a picture of The base crystal and grids for all six playable characters.

The Crystarium System is the ability and statistics system for Final Fantasy XIII. Each character has a unique Crystarium System grid similar to the Sphere Grid of Final Fantasy X, although systems do not intersect. The System is fueled by Crystarium Points, or CP, which are won after every battle, and are spent to unlock nodes on the Crystarium Grid. Each character's Crystarium System is based around their Eidolon crystal and branch out in seperate planes defined by paradigms.

Paradigms model the Job System of games past while adding some level of customization and restrction. Each character in the field can take on one of six roles in the Paradgma; any combination of three characters' roles constitutes a paradigm. Paradigms can be changed during battle with a Paradigm Shift; however, what is more important to the Crystarium System is the particular roles that each character can take on. The six roles are as follows:

Japanese English Description
Attacker (ATK) Commando (COM) Build attack chains more easily with enhanced strength.
Blaster (BLA) Ravager (RAV) Charge enemy chain gauges with concentrated attacks.
Defender (DEF) Sentinel (SEN) Shield allies from enemy attacks with enhanced defense.
Enhancer (ENH) Synergist (SYN) Support allies with an array of magical enhancements.
Healer (HLR) Medic (MED) Use healing actions on yourself and allies.
Jammer (JAM) Saboteur (SAB) Inflict status ailments on the enemy.

Each character has three major roles and three minor roles in the Paradigma System, and these classifications affect the amount of CP needed to unlock nodes in the Crystarium System.

Character Major Roles Minor Roles
Lightning Commando, Ravager, Medic Sentinel, Synergist, Saboteur
Snow Villiers Commando, Ravager, Sentinel Medic, Synergist, Saboteur
