From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

A Crushed gem is an accidental product that is occasionally made when using a chisel on an uncut semiprecious gem. The player can also crush a gem deliberately by using a hammer on an Opal, Jade, or Red Topaz, as of 27 January, 2009.

This item is of very limited use, with the only application coming from the Fairytale I - Growing Pains quest to make the magic secateurs used in that quest. Even here, this is only one of several items that may be required, and is different for each player.

Crushed gem used to be tradeable in the Grand Exchange, however this was recently removed. An easy solution is to purchase an opal, jade, or red topaz from the Grand Exchange and use a hammer on it.

Trivia

  • The crushed gem's old graphics looked very similar to ashes.
  • Previously, non-members could use a hammer on f2p gems to get a crushed gem, which was named 'Member's object'. This was later removed.
