Cold Crush, named after the pioneering hip-hoppers, The Cold Crush Brothers, is the brainchild of Derek Fudesco with the indie know-how of Dim Mak owner/L.A. hype-machine Steve Aoki. If you are into indie-rock at all, you probably know at least one of Fudesco's bands, especially if you are a Seattle fan; he has played bass for the likes of Pretty Girls Make Graves, Murder City Devils, Hookers and Queen Maab in the last 10 years. So, it is a given that he is a rather large name in the Seattle scene and therefor knows who and where to find the best unsigned acts from the area. The label, which kicked off a few years back, started off with a lot of noise thanks to the amazing Hint Hint EP, Sex is Everything and the self-titled Hookers album. Within the next year, Cold Crush was responsible for unleashing radical new sounds on the indie world with albums by electropop princess Anna Oxygen, art-punkers Gravy Train!!!, the urgent post-punk of Cobra High and the dance inspired world-funk of the unparalleled Mahjongg. The output slowed down at that point until recently with a full-length album by Mahjongg and a unique post-punk/hip-hop/dub collaboration between Dan Gallucci (Modest Mouse, Murder City Devils) and Sean Reveron (Free Association, Exodus 77, The Beta Band), which also features Andrea Zollo (Pretty Girls Make Graves, Hookers), Roots Manuva and Airborn Audio. Though PGMG seems to be Fudesco's first priority, he does a good job of keeping Cold Crush productive and hopefully we'll hear a consistant output in the future.
